Welcome!

Hello, Thinkingbartender, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  NickelShoe (Talk) 05:21, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Grappacino has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt this drink might not be notable enough for an article. Please review WP:NOT and WP:OR for relevant policies. If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.

If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the prod notice, the article may be deleted without further discussion. NickelShoe (Talk) 05:21, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have nominated my Entry for deletion, and I would like to know what gives you the right to remove other peoples considered contributions to the Wikipedia. There are plenty of un-notable entries on the Wikipedia that could do with being removed, and yet you choose to single my entry for deletion.

The Following Cocktail Related Entries would be better served with being deleted:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naga_Cocktail

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swank_Motel

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Tooth_Grin

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maiden_Head

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki_waki_woo

If you are unable to answer this query to my satisfaction then I would like to be put in contact with someone else who can.

I also noticed that there are hardly any cocktail recipes listed on Wikipedia, so what is the point of deleting this entry? —This unsigned comment was added by Thinkingbartender (talkcontribs) .

Hi there. Thanks for the message. As a courtesy for other editors on Wikipedia, please sign your talk page and user talk page posts. By adding four tildes (~) at the end of your comments, your user name or IP address and the date will be automatically added. This makes it much easier to find you to respond to your questions.
You'll see from the page history that it was User:Xyzzyplugh who proposed this article for deletion [1]. I simply noticed that it was up for deletion, and thought you'd like to know.
If there are other articles in Wikipedia which ought to be deleted, you are welcome to do as any other editor and submit them for deletion. WP:DP explains deletion.
There are not supposed to be cocktail recipes on Wikipedia, because Wikipedia is not a cookbook. Did you review WP:NOT?
Because you removed the prod notice, the article is no longer up for deletion, but it is still unclear that it is appropriate for an encyclopedia. Also make sure that the information is verifiable thru third-party sources. Thanks, and let me know if you have any further questions. FYI, I'm adding some maintenance tags to the article to flag it for certain concerns. The tags may be removed once the article clearly meets Wikipedia standards. I looked at those other cocktails. One has already been proposed for deletion and two have been requested to be moved to Wikibooks--that is, off of Wikipedia. So other people agree with you and have taken action regarding removing encyclopedic cocktail recipes from Wikipedia. NickelShoe (Talk) 14:54, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. If it is a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If the page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia!
If this was your way of trying to delete the article, please realize that removing the text doesn't get rid of the article, it just makes it empty. If you support the deletion, please comment as such at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Grappacino. If you oppose the deletion, you also ought to come by and comment. That's what the page is for. Cocktail articles

[edit]

Hi, a comment regarding cocktail articles. While we can and do have articles on cocktails here at wikipedia, it is not considered acceptable to have actual recipes for them here, per the following policy, point 8 WP:NOT#Wikipedia_is_not_an_indiscriminate_collection_of_information. However, cocktail recipes are acceptable at wikibooks. If you want to enter actual recipes for cocktails, you might try http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Category:Cocktails --Xyzzyplugh 04:07, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To follow up on this article, which I've just deleted - even if you wrote the content elsewhere, if it wasn't originally licensed under the GFDL license, it can't be reproduced here without an explicit release under that license. Also, if you do decide to stick around, you should be aware that drink recipes alone are generally not appropriate for encyclopedia articles, though they may be perfectly appropriate on other wikis. An encyclopedic article about a drink could include discussion of its social role, rise to popularity, historical development, etc. Thanks! Opabinia regalis 02:08, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You entered: "The first citation of "Bloody Mary" is from the New York Herald Tribune, 2nd December 1939: "George Jessel’s newest pick-me-up which is receiving attention from the town’s paragraphers is called a Bloody Mary: half tomato juice, half vodka." into the Bloody Mary article. Do you happen to have a copy of this 1939 article, or a source from which you quote it? DreamGuy 20:39, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
