Martin Winch

[edit]

Thilal, I have cleaned up the Martin Winch submission a bit, and placed one reference inline for you to copy - you just put each reference in ref tags like the one I've done for you. If you could just add citations where I've indicated they are needed that would be really helpful. Thanks Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:07, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help with describing and licensing Martin Winch Image

[edit]
Hi, I see you've been given a message by the image robot. It would indeed be good to have an image for the article on Martin Winch. You will need to fill in the image description and say where it came from - Wikipedia has to be careful about copyright. Ideally the image will be free, i.e. you took it and you freely give it to Wikimedia Commons (which is not the same as Wikipedia, I know it's confusing); or someone else has already published the image under a free license. Or, it may be possible to use a non-free image provided you write a rationale explaining why the image can fairly be used even though it doesn't belong to you. If I can help you in getting these descriptions written, just ask. with best wishes Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:17, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source/license for File:PianoByCandlelight.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:PianoByCandlelight.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

How to get permission for a photo

[edit]

Hi Thilal

good to hear you. There are two different situations.

When copyright in a photo belongs to you (i.e. you took it), uploading is easy, you just put it on Commons (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard, not Wikipedia) and follow the Wizard's guidance. You can use your username or your actual name as you please. It's very unlikely anyone will challenge the upload of a photo you took.

When the copyright is somebody else's you will have to ask them to fill in a copyright permission form. It is called an OTRS ticket (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OTRS). You get the other person to confirm to an OTRS volunteer that they indeed own the photo and are happy to release it as a free image. It's all explained on that page and the system works well.

(With the existing images, if you did take them yourself, you can add a copyright tag {{PD-self}}, but you may also be required to provide proof (OTRS) you took them now that you have attracted doubt about ownership.)

If you follow the OTRS system all will be fine; there is no way to avoid it.

Hope this helps. (ps I tried other route, it bounced) Chiswick Chap (talk) 06:58, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
