Philip H. Bucksbaum: and others

Among you generally very good AfC reviews, I see some recent problems, mainly with respect to your failure to recognize cases for WP:PROF. This is an alternative to the GNG, and requires meeting only any one of the criteria specified there. Among them:

  1. I'm not sure why you declined Bucksbaum on the bssis of having inadequate references. Every detail is referenced. Though some parts of it are based on sources that would not be reliable for notability , even sources derived from the person himself are acceptable for the routine biographical facts. The sources that establish notability according to WP:PROF are certainly referenced with excellent 3rd party sources. (And note that he mets several criteria of WP:PROF asides from the one for being an expert in his field--named professorship at major university, member of he National Academy of Sciences, President of the Optical Society of America.)
  2. For Philip James Ayres similarly, though not quite as dramatically notable.
  3. For Darcia Narvaez similarly, with the added factor of NAUTHOR. I have not yet accepted this one because I suspect copypaste & it may need to be rewritten.
  4. For Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Touro university worldwide, you similarly ask for 3rd party sources, but all universities are considered notable

I notice you're asking for better referencing for the routine facts of someone's life. We have always accepted sources derived from the person himself for these, unless they are contested or look unlikely. Nor do we need inline citations for these (with of course the same limitations). Thanks, DGG, for your comments and detailed advice. I guess I had a few misconceptions about professors' works and bio in general. Especially the derivation of basic biographical facts from the person itself. You're wonderful. theonesean 19:16, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
that doesn't mean we don't check them--when it look dubious, I check that anyone being referred to as professor is a full professor, not an assistant professor or associate professor, I check that 'taught at" means they had a regular job, not a teaching assistant in grad school, I check that publications claimed as books are books and not pamphlets, or book chapters, and that articles mean peer-reviewed articles in journals. A day or two ago I just removed a claimed professorship from an article because I could find absolutely zero documentation, And once I found a false claim to a PhD. And of course, what always has to be checked is copyvio. If it sounds formally written and I don;t see the source, I normally make at least a few changes just in case. I see you using similar judgement in areas you clearly know a great deal about,articles I've learned better than to touch--I will normally not decline or speedy anything in sports or popular culture unless it looks utterly obvious. At the start, I made a few very conspicuous errors thinking I could handle anything. DGG ( talk ) 01:53, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Copyvio, thou art a heartless bitch. You're very right, it's extremely important (because legal stuff). I've found that the highest proportion of copyvios are for corporations, because of the low-hanging fruit of the company website. But thanks for your advice and anecdotes. Hello, what will it take to get an article created for this prominent NYC musician? There are hundreds of other musicians within the Wikipedia universe with less credit to their name, and less sourced material, making them absolutely less notable than this musician I'm trying to submit an article for. Even when I've tried copying the format/sources of a different musician on Wikipedia with the same scope of credit/involvement in the music scene, this page has gotten rejected again. Any help is truly appreciated.

Yeah, I have a good portion of it done off-wiki. I posted a few help requests on the WT:AFC, and there's a to-do list (link at the top) on the main project page. If you want to help out, that's probably the best way to do it. I would like to see your CVUA, just to compare notes. The mentors is indeed a specific issue. The reason I closed down the old CVUA and created a new one was because it was a question of the blind leading the blind, and the whole thing had become a MMPORG for younger and/or inexperienced users. I have always had a strong set of principles about IRC and that's why I have never used it once in all my years here. Even more so since one admin was recently desyoped for his abuse of it. It also never coincides with my time zone. I would be happy to discuss it over the transparency of a normal talk page somewhere. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:55, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

My Edits at AfC aren't sticking

Did I have my reviewer status rescinded or something? Every time I've edited and reviewed an article today I get a message that says "edit failed' when I save. I'm confused. Do you have any insight? I have no idea how to figure this out! Thanks. JSFarman (talk) 00:35, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Um, Ok, it looks like an article I accepted and moved into the mainspace (through AfC templates) didn't have the templates for AfC removed. I just deleted them from the article and maybe it'll all be back to normal. As if. (This is why I need the Mentorship :))JSFarman (talk) 00:46, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
