In regards to your article on The Vanishing American. This article is well written, well structured, and well-cited but I think it lacks a sufficient amount of information. My suggestion would simply be to find more info. For example despite the well-written lead I still didn’t know what the movie was about. A description of the plot, even a sentence or two, would go a long way to making this article better. More specifically; when you say the story was altered before it was published, explain how it was altered and maybe give some background as to why the missionaries feared criticism. A google search answered these questions for me, but your article could make that much easier. The databases and library are the best places to look for info but don’t be afraid to use the internet to look for information as long as the source is reputable. The structure is excellent and all the info is well written but there is not enough material here to give an understanding of the movie. In a word; elaborate. Vanishing American

[edit]

Hi Theodoramakris. I just wanted to give you a little feedback on your article Draft:Vanishing American. While you have some good content in there, there are a number of problems (which importantly contributed to the rejection of your AFC submission).

  1. Perhaps most importantly, we already have an article about that movie: The Vanishing American. Rather than create a new article, you should should be working to improve what already exists
  2. Your article lacks inline citations - this makes it very difficult for readers to know which content is attributable to which source. Your citations are also formatted as Bare URLs. This makes the actual source unclear, and makes it hard to maintain the page in the long term (since URLs often change). Both of these problems can be solved by using citation templates. If you look at the top of the edit window (the place you type text after you hit 'edit') you should see the word 'Cite' on the toolbar. Click on that, selected appropriate template from the drop-down menu, and fill it in as best you can. Doing that creates a better formatted reference, and one that it easier to maintain in the long run.
  3. You used IMDB as a source for the synopsis of the movie. IMDB is a user-submitted database - anyone can submit content. For that reason, it isn't considered a reliable source for Wikipedia articles.

Hope this helps you improve your contribution. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:12, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Vanishing American

[edit]

I've merged your draft into the article, without many changes. You may want to take a look at the article and make sure that there isn't more integration to be done (expanding the intro section, etc.), but otherwise that's a good contribution to the article! Thanks. Adam (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:15, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
