Deleting file redirects

Hello. I see that you've been using somewhat of an automated process to clear out a list of unused file redirects. If you are, it looks like it's been working great just far; if you aren't, you're just pretty fast. :) Anyways, you might want to take a look at the database report compiled just for this purpose if you haven't done so already; it might help. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 00:39, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know under what criteria file redirects are deleted, but I certainly don't think critea G6 covers it. For example [1] there may not be any incoming links but that does not mean it is "unused" or unnecessary. For example in this case the filename was referenced but not wikilinked in a derivative file description File:Paleo-hebrew - alef.png (in fact 22 file descriptions), casual users have no way of knowing where the file has gone, and will probably assume the filename was mis-spelt or the file deleted. Please see "Note: Redirects should not be deleted simply because they do not have any incoming links". Am I missing something? Thanks :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 22:12, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In most cases a file redirect should be left on the original page, except if it is a misleading or promotional name. from WP:File mover#How it works. Normal operating procedure is to leave file redirects in place. Other places on the internet (omg Wikipedia isn't the internet?) might be linking to them as a part of attribution or otherwise. (edit conflict)Yes. For images, usage via a redirect works, but fails to appear in the "usages" list on the file page. Thus file redirects tend to hide usages of non-free images (free images should be on commons anyway) - not a good thing. Therefore modifying redirect usages to point to the target and deleting the redirect helps to solve that problem. [stwalkerster|talk] 22:24, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

question about account creation interface access

I get everything about the requirements to request access to the account creation interface access except the part where you get to sit around and wait six months. Could you explain why I get to sit around six months and wait? Thanks! Crazymonkey1123 (Jacob) T or M/Sign mine 21:19, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia page User talk:Davidgrunwald has been created by Thehelpfulone

Dear Thehelpfulone,

Many thanks for your help. I would indeed like you to restore the article about the GTS Translation plugin to my user space. Once it is restored I will work on it some more.

In addition, I would like to help on Wikipedia so if there is anything I can do please let me know. I edited some articles in the last few months and can do more.

Best regards, David

Per Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Noticeboard#Arbitration motion regarding hyphens and dashes, moves regarding hyphens and endashes are not uncontroversial at the moment. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 16:14, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Radio 1 Big Weekend 2010.gif, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Retitled image, All incoming links updated

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:37, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was wondering why, when you made this edit, you didn't simply revert the previous ip's edit, and thus include the cite book as well? Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 17:08, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

check my draft edit filter

Could you take a look at User:Crazymonkey1123/test filter, fix up the code a little bit (if necessary), and try to make it into a new edit filter? Thanks! Crazymonkey1123 (Jacob) T or M/Sign mine 16:30, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Not a complaint at all, but I was curious about this page protection with the message "inbound attacks". What was the story? Were there people off-wiki coordinating a vandalism spree? —Bill Price (nyb) 16:07, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle blacklist

Hi,
regarding the Twinkle blacklist: There is no Twinkleblacklist. User:AzaToth/morebits.js is not used by Twinkle v2, and the blacklist was removed in the rewrite per WP:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive221#New Twinkle blacklist proposal. The user will just have to deactivate his gadget.

WikiLove suggestion

Thanks for the suggestion on improving WikiLove. I've incorporated your idea into the code that will be deployed later this week. Kaldari (talk) 06:55, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Thehelpfulone, please take a look at the citations and formatting. Some of our editors gave this new contributor an unneeded bad time. I don't want him to leave on unfriendly terms. Thanks. 7&6=thirteen () 00:18, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your intervention. I've added quite a bit of references adn links, and would appreciate it if you would take another look. I've been working with templates with which I am unfamiliar. Best regards. 7&6=thirteen () 02:47, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Another outline nominated for deletion

The Outline of relationships was nominated for deletion.

It was then overhauled and the nomination was withdrawn.

If not, please watchlist it.
