[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Rsjaffe. I noticed that you recently made an edit to User:Theexoteas in which your edit summary did not appear to describe the change you made. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 02:43, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rsjaffe,
Thank you for bringing this to our notice. We are very new to creating wiki pages and may make mistakes while creating the content.
We believe that we left multiple links to our website that may have been the reason to bring our previous page down.
We are now editing the page and removing all promotional links.
Thank you,
Team ExoTeas Theexoteas (talk) 02:48, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Acroterion (talk) 03:17, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am the co-founder of my company, and all I wanted to do was create a page for my company ExoTeas. I understand that being new to creating pages on Wikipedia, I may have made mistakes by promoting links to my websites.

I was editing my page and removing all promotional links, however, I got blocked indefinitely. It would have helped if Wikipedia offered drafts to be submitted for review and advised and helped newbies correct the errors rather than deleting the page straight away. I understand that you have your company policy, and I assure to abide by the rules. However, mistakes happen and we expect guidance.

Regards, Prashant Karki ExoTeas

Kindly revoke the ban.

If all you want to do is to "create a page for my company," you will not be unblocked. You are not permitted to advertise or promote your business, no matter what you username is. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not social media. Please see WP:COI. Acroterion (talk) 03:41, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
Thank you for your message.
I apologise as I am new to the Wikipedia, I may not have fully listed my request for unbanning.
By 'create a page for my company', I mean create a page for my company that not only makes my company discoverable, but it also provides a knowledge about a company that has existed and have played a major role in benefiting many unemployed during the Covid-19 period. To share a knowledge on how a small company managed to pull strings to make some significant change in offering employment opportunities.
I simply wanted to share the story of the company, the founders and their vision.
Your guidance is truly appreciated.
Regards,
Prashant Karki Theexoteas (talk) 03:53, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, you will not be permitted to write about your company in any manner. Acroterion (talk) 03:55, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks you for your kind reply.
Apologies if I did not fully understand the policies of Wikipedia.
I took reference from a wiki page for DavidsTea who are still on wikipedia while editing.
DavidsTea
They have shared their story about the company and themselves. I do not understand why I am not unbanned when I have assured that I will not leave and write promotional content for my company. Theexoteas (talk) 04:01, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please see other stuff exists. Other poor articles existing cannot justify adding more inappropriate articles. Articles are typically written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the topic. If you have evidence that DavidsTea employees wrote the article without disclosing their status(a serious accusation), please see WP:PAID for instructions on how you can offer that evidence. You'll need to make the Terms of Use required paid editing disclosure as well.
"I mean create a page for my company that not only makes my company discoverable, but it also provides a knowledge about a company" is promotional on Wikipedia. We want to know what others say about your company, not what it wants to say about itself. 331dot (talk) 07:25, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for making this clear now. I am NOT ACCUSING that their employees wrote the article. I was unclear that people connected to the business cannot write for themselves.
Noted on the "I mean create a page for my company that not only makes my company discoverable, but it also provides a knowledge about a company" is promotional on Wikipedia.
However, I request you to kindly go through the message thread. I have humbly admitted that I am new user and would love your guidance. New users like me appreciate guidance and not replies like "Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not social media."
Anyways, thank you for your time and guidance. Appreciate how patient and kind your team has been all this while. Theexoteas (talk) 12:35, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
