Dependent variable
[edit]Hi, Gecko. I saw your comment at Talk:Dependent variable about the term having fallen into disuse. However, a Google search for combinations of dependent variablee and experimental design produced 285,000 hits, while a similar search with response variable substituted for dependent variable produced only 71,000, so dependent variable doesn't seem to have fallen into disuse.
If you could qualify the assertion (for example, among whom has it fallen into disuse?), or provide a source for it, and add the other meaning of dependent variable to the article that would be helpful.
I realize this note seems snotty but it's not intended to be. I'm just tired. But still an earnest seeker after enlightenment, including the Geckonian. John FitzGerald 03:03, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Bobby Hauck and Lucious Pusey
[edit]Hi! I read your comment at your comment on Digg.
I believe the article Bobby Hauck was unfairly deleted, and I've restored it. I don't have much knowledge of American football, but still I've tried to expand the article with references. User:Zoe should not have deleted the page because there was a hangon notice and the article had at least one sentence about the notability. He should have also responded to your query.
As about Lucious Pusey, it was deleted per the policy and in my personal opinion, the deletion was fair. It consisted of a single sentence that didn't assert the notability of the subject. When I come across such articles, I usually Google them. If search results indicate the person is notable, I usually put up a {{cleanup-importance}} tag. But, many users don't do that and simply tag it as speedy -- which is the policy. Please feel free to re-create the article with assertion of notability and sources.
Remember, you can always contest the deletion of the pages at Wikipedia:Deletion review and complaint about the abuse of admin powers at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User conduct#Use_of_administrator_privileges.
I hope your bad experience with some users doesn't discourage you from making contributions to Wikipeida. Feel free to drop a note on my talk page if you need any help. utcursch | talk 14:57, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]I agree the Lucious Pusey article really wasn't the best. The main thing that disturbed me about it was the process of the deletion. But, now that I understand the policy, I will work harder to make sure that an article has quality before submitting it. Likewise, thank you for looking at the Bobby Hauck article. Every now and then, I like to contribute a little bit, with the hope that someone who is a bigger fan of American football and a better writer will improve.--Theblackgecko 21:06, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
