- Before you are unblocked we need to be able to know the following:
- What type of edits are you intending to do on Wikipedia?
- Do you understand that Wikipedia is not a place to represent or promote a company? (WP:NOTPROMOTION)
- What exactly is your relation to Ameriprise? In other words, what were you asked to do with Wikipedia? (WP:COI)
- You can edit with a conflict of interest but you need to be extremely transparent about everything. I'm also mildly concerned about the way you've been responding to the block. You may not have intended for this to come across this way, but the section titles and request above somewhat give off the impression that you're angry about the block. While I do understand that this can be frustrating, part of what we need to determine is whether or not you will be open and receptive to suggestions and criticisms that will come your way. Editing with a COI is very difficult and many will face a higher scrutiny than others ever could, so we need to ensure that you can respond calmly to messages and issues. We also need to know exactly what your purpose is here on Wikipedia. Were you asked to come and fix minor details? To add material from press releases? To add additional content in other ways? This is very important to know since press release material can be extremely promotional, which would make it improper for Wikipedia. The other issue is that sometimes we'll have COI editors come in to add minor, almost miscellaneous data that doesn't really warrant inclusion on Wikipedia. Knowing this ahead of time can help us know if we can unblock you, plus also give you a head's up on whether or not trying to add the material would be worthwhile. On that note: would you be willing to go through a training program, either WP:TRAINING or WP:ADVENTURE as a show of good faith? Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:03, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Tokyogirl79: I'm going to try to answer your questions as best as I can. Basically, I work for Ameriprise. I was not asked to use Wikipedia by the company - it's just that I've edited logged out for a while and decided it was time to create an account. I was not aware whatsoever that representing a company which you work for was not allowed. I really don't have a major COI, because I'm not editing on behalf of the company. Of course, I may edit this at times if need be, but except for that, I'm independent. In terms of the edits I hope to make, I'm not really sure yet. I think that I may participate in the project namespace/discussions more than actually create articles, but this is still up in the air. Of course, I may create an article if I find something that needs creating and I can do it correctly, but again, this is still undecided as well. I am willing to go through a training program, as long as it is efficient. Remember, I've been an IP editor here for some time, so I already know at least the basics of Wikipedia polices. - It's not that you can't represent the company per se, mostly that you have to be very careful to not run afoul of WP:COI and that you can't have a username that gives off the impression that you're here to promote or that it'd be a shared account. It's something that you really, really need to make sure that you're careful about because I'll be honest: COI editors tend to get eaten alive here if they aren't careful, so I wanted to make sure that you're aware of everything. Earwig has unblocked you, so make sure that you put in for the username request as soon as possible. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 15:37, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
