Useful links
[edit]Hey R.L.! Sorry I'm slow, here's some links that you may find useful. I'll probably think of others.
- GLAM on Outreach Wiki, tons of resources here - case studies, contacts, uploading tools, resource bookshelf, and more
- WP:WikiProject Canada, and its discussion board, are great places to chat with other Canadian wikipedians, flag issues, and find help.
- Regarding external links, here is the relevant English Wikipedia exlinks guideline.
Again, feel free to drop by my talk with any questions. Regards, The Interior (Talk) 17:53, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
The Wikipedia Library needs you!
[edit]Did you know that Wikipedia has its own library? The Wikipedia Library is seeking volunteers from those in galleries, libraries, archives and museums.
- Become an account coordinator to distribute research accounts to editors
- Get involved in some of our special projects:
- Expand our Resources page with free resources for editors in all subject areas
- Help develop a template for citing archival collections
- Write guides to accessing and using library resources

Hi, I see you've been a registered editor for a few years and you've disclosed your conflict of interest here on your userpage, which is great. I'd do the same on your userpage on French Wikipedia, fr:Utilisateur:The Raven's Librarian.
Just another important thing to note, if you are being paid to edit topics relating to your work with the Canadian Museum of History, you are obligated to disclose this as well (see WP:PAID). The analagous French policy is at fr:Aide:Contributions rémunérées. Thanks. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 00:03, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Drm310, thank you for letting me know. I have not been active these past 4 years, and am now picking it up again. My institution is paying me a salary for my work, but is not paying me to edit articles about them. Instead, we plan to add images and references (books, weblinks) to articles where we have complementary material in our collections. Does this still require that I declare that I am paid? Is the declaration I posted the correct one to use in my situation?
- In all honesty, I am finding it incredibly difficult to navigate Wikipedia's editing and help pages. There seems to be no logic to where information is stored, and no links from the main pages of Wikipedia / Wikimedia Commons. I have had to rely on bookmarks to be able to go back to any relevant information. Beyond that, the language used is confusing, and there are an overwhelming number of rules to follow. I had to read your talk page to figure out that I must put a second "paid" disclosure on any article I add to, on its talk page, because the information on the page you linked me to was so confusing...I think I read that correctly, but let me know if I didn't.
- I would greatly appreciate knowing if there is some kind of tutorial for a new editor, because for the moment, I am feeling quite lost! The Raven's Librarian (talk) 13:32, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- You're in luck, because there are a few helpful tutorials for new(ish) users.
- You can try Wikipedia:Tutorial, the Wikipedia:ADVENTURE, and also Your first article for editing instruction. There may be some overlap between the three but they are useful exercises for a new user, or user that's been away for a while.
- As I hope you've discovered, the Teahouse is a fairly hospitable forum for inexperienced users, as is the Wikipedia help desk.
- I see that you have made a paid editor declaration on your userpage. I think that was a wise decision to err on the side of caution, lest any editors suspect that you have ulterior motives adding links/references to the CMH. This shows that you are editing in good faith, so other editors will appreciate your transparency and be more willing to help you. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 06:32, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Drm310, thank you for the links! I'm not entirely sure I have the correct disclaimer, because I will not be editing posts connected with my institution, only adding images and references to other articles, and likely not writing content. However, I have contacted someone from the GLAM community who has done a similar project, and hopefully he will be able to give me some advice. Thanks for your help! GLAM partnership
[edit]Good day, I am very excited about the idea of a partnership between the Canadian History Museum and Wikimedia. I can certainly meet you in person to discuss about this project. You can email me at jpbeland{{at}}wikimedia.ca to discuss this further. Thank you, Amqui (talk) 16:21, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
