The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page
Lastly, a new WikiProject Biography channel has been set up on the freenode network: Our thanks to Phoenix 15 for setting it up.

Getting coordinated
Just wanted to give you a heads up that I will be putting together a more formal work area and starting to bounce around ideas in the next few days. In the meantime, if you like puzzles and creative guesswork, you might be able to decipher some of my thoughts currently written on my userpage. (A preview, I suppose.) :) Girolamo Savonarola 04:41, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I've started to carve a space at WT:FILMC. There's still a fair bit of work remaining for that page itself, and some outstanding red links I'm working on, but I think that it's ready enough now for viewing, and we can start discussing any raised issues. Additionally, I've sorted out the unasssessed snafu, so I've put the backlog on the Irregular Tasks list. We also should be implementing a new task force soon, and will probably be doing some task force tagging runs in the next few weeks. Watchlist this page if you haven't already, and I look forward to joining you to get our hands dirty! :) Girolamo Savonarola 19:09, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Preity Zinta FA
Hi there. The Preity Zinta article has recently achieved A-class status. Due to the wealth of support I have decided to now nominate for an FA class article which I believe and judging by the comments of others is pretty much up to. In my view it is better than some existing FA actor articles. I would therefore be very grateful if you could give it a final review in your own time and leave your comments and views at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Preity Zinta. Thankyou, your comments are always valuable. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 10:57, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject Golf
Hi The Giant Puffin/Archive 8
I thought that a way to further improve the golf articles on Wikipedia is for the whole project to work together towards a goal. An example of this could be a certain number of good articles in so many months, or to create the project's first ever featured article. If you are interested, come to the talk page and discuss it. And hopefully through this the project can continue to work towards several goals in the near future.

OhanaUnited's RfA
Thanks for voting at my RfA. Unfortunately, the result stands at 51 support, 21 oppose and 7 neutral which means that I did not succeed. As many expressed their appreciation of my works in featured portals during my RfA, I will fill up the vacuum position of director in featured portal candidates to maintain the standards of featured contents in addition to my active role in Good articles. Have a great day. OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:06, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Roewe logo cropped.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Roewe logo cropped.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 17:33, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

On Dec 3 you "archived" pacifism but I can find any link to archives. Shouldn't there be one? I know there are certain issues that get revisited a lot so need one. Thanks. Carol Moore 21:30, 5 December 2007 (UTC)User:Carolmooredc User talk:Carolmooredc
Coordinator report
Hello, and hope that you've been well! :) I've just logged my report for today, and want to make certain that you have a chance to look it over and offer any thoughts. Don't worry if you need some time to digest it all, though - I am going to be gone for the rest of the year anyway, so as long as you can respond by then, I'd be very grateful. Keep up the good work and have a happy holiday season, Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 03:15, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Your switch of wiki project banner displays on Talk:HMS Vanguard (23)
Why did you make the switch? The documentation on the nesting template I introduced to the page includes the following:
From Template:WikiProjectBannerShell:
- "Please do not implement this template on talk pages already using the {{WikiProjectBanners}} template without first discussing the change on that talk page. WikiProjectBanners is a similar nesting template with an alternate appearance, the use of which is dependent on editor preference. Once one Shell or the other has been established on a talk page, it should not be changed without discussion."
I have established a section on the talk page to establish consensus on which template should be used. -MBK004 00:25, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject banner shell churn
Hello. Is there a reason you have been switching ([1], [2], [3], etc.) talk pages from {{WikiProjectBannerShell}} to {{WikiProjectBanners}} without first discussing the issue and building consensus for a change? --Kralizec! (talk) 16:31, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
If you've a moment, can you take a look at this article? There has been some controversy on the discussion page about moving the article from Twelve Monkeys to the current 12 Monkeys. The issue has come up before, and the response was that the official title is Twelve, not 12, Monkeys. Nonetheless, the article was recently moved, and this was done without discussion. If someone from Wikiproject Films could offer a definitive opinion as to Wiki-policy on the matter, it might be of great help. I thank you for your time and attention. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 01:19, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:John Bunnell.JPG
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:John Bunnell.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mr Senseless (talk) 19:25, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks and Happy New Year
Firstly, let me wish you a very happy New Year and thank you for all your help in the Milhist Tag & Assess 2007 drive.
Military history service award | ||
For tagging and assessing 250 articles in Tag & Assess 2007, by order of the coordinators I hereby present you with this Military history WikiProject Service Award. --ROGER DAVIES talk 11:14, 2 January 2008 (UTC) |
Secondly, although the Tag & Assess 2007 drive is now officially closed, you are very welcome to continue tagging and assessing until 31 January 2008. Any articles you tag and assess during this time will be credited fully to your tagging tally for further award purposes.
Thirdly, if you can find the time, it would be good to have your feedback/comments on the drive at the Tag & Assess workshop
Thanks again for your help, --ROGER DAVIES talk 11:14, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

American English
Some AE words and spellings are the originals, later changed by people still living in England. And yet, they are "errors" according to you, because, well, you didn't grow up using them, and we were cheeky enough to break off from your empire, so of course these variations are wrong, and the ones you grew up using are inherently right. Congratulations on your wide horizons. 65.190.89.154 (talk) 07:07, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Talkheader
You have added many instances of Template:Talkheader. Although it may be useful, it is, however, unnecessary to add it to every talk page. Please see the link. I have no personal objections, but there may be better things to do than manually add the template to talk pages unless it is really needed there. Cheers, Reywas92Talk 21:29, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
