Thunderstorm revert

Why did you revert my edit to Thunderstorm? Explain because I don't understand.

It does not need a heading, like you added, because it is the lead of the article. Click the "lead" for info about leads. Thanks! Jonathan speak out 01:41, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
I read your response, thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.244.59.186 (talk) 01:44, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi there; this editor, whom you have nominated for username block, has been editing under this name since 2005. Did you check his contributions? --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 20:35, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

I think some people with that condition may find it offensive. Jon t 20:38, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Following your "final warning" on the above IP editor's talk page, he/she made yet another vandalistic edit to Ariel Sharon, which I reverted. Only then did I check the IP's talk page and saw all the warnings. I do not know what happens now and I am not an admin, so I leave the next step to you. 6SJ7 (talk) 18:41, 11 August 2008 (UTC) Added note: I now see you are not an admin either, but your knowledge of the "warning sequence" is obviously far greater than mine. 6SJ7 (talk) 18:43, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Done - He should be taken care of VERY soon. Thanks! Jonathan talk - contribs - review me! 18:46, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

hi! sorry for deleting your text, but you were right, it was not my intention. please have a look on what I did today and give me a feedback. thanks, eike —Preceding unsigned comment added by Flobux (talkcontribs) 16:23, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

RE: Your edit

"About this edit, you might want to tone it down a bit. The user may have found it more offensive than you meant it to be. Thanks! Jonathan talk - contribs - review me! 01:38, 13 August 2008 (UTC)"

Let me make sure I understand this. An anon editor vandalizes a page four times, his only four edits. I give him a final warning and he continues to vandalize. So I give him a sterner final warning telling him that if he vandalizes again he will not be warned again but will be blocked without further warning. And you're telling me to tone it down??? WP:NPA will not allow me to give you an honest response to your own tone, so let me just say I have read and dismissed your message as useless protection of vandals. And thanks for reminding me of why Wikipedia is broken. Now, if you don't mind, I'll kindly ask you, unless you have any additional problems with my edits, to please leave my talk page alone. Thank you. Ward3001 (talk) 01:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Hmmmmm...I will if you'll be civil. Jonathan talk - contribs - review me! 16:38, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, my hands are tied now. I must snap to attention and salute. You pulled an admin in on the situation. And a lot (but not all) admins aren't interested in creating a quality encyclopedia. They prefer to protect their own hide by not stepping on the toes of anon vandals. "Don't bite the newcomer" often really means "Let anon vandals do as they please so I don't have to come down hard on anyone." So, I congratulate you on a strategy well-played. If you aspire to be an admin, I have no doubt that you will be. And now, you can go ahead and "report" me for something, perhaps making another "nasty comment" on your user page. If you play it up right, you might get me blocked. That would only be the second block I've had in the two years I've been editing. The first one was by an admin who actually had some courage. He blocked me despite the fact that I was a "newcomer" because (not understanding anything) I violated 3RR without knowing I had violated anything. But I didn't whine about "biting the newcomer". I accepted it as necessary to maintain a quality encyclopedia. Unfortunately, most admins don't have that approach, and Wikipedia loses some of its best editors as a result. Crystal Mapping Deletion status

Hello Jonathan.

I can see why you thought crystal mapping unworthy of an entry. All I can say is that I'm doing this in good faith but I'm not sure how to proceed vis a vis the 'promotion' issue and some of the other problems. You're right I am the author of the only citation - will it help if I cite someone else's article about the subject. Also re crystallography and google counts - how do I get round that? The two things are entirely different?

The background to the term and the subject is that crystal mapping is similar to concept mapping and mind mapping and a number of other such tools and processes but is distinctly different in the way it handles the subject and thus is a new method in its own right. The key to crystal mapping is the fact that it is based on a circle thus representing unity. I have a number of academics who would verify the uniqueness of the idea and process.

This is not a spam / spurious idea of any sort and it is a genuine belief on my part and of others that crystal mapping is a new method and process and the intention is to get it increasingly recognised as such.

Also I note that a brand of mind mapping software Mind Manager has a listing. Could I copy the way this has been listed for Crystal Mapping (i.e. as a branded product in the general area of mind mapping / concept mapping)as a start?

It seems to be a neologism being promoted here. Jonathan talk - contribs - review me! 19:16, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Crystal Mapping Deletion status

You are possibly right that it is a neologism - but thats a problem I'll have to deal with in a much more general sense than wiki entry. What if I use the term Crystal Map - would that cover off the neologism? I still can't figure how I can not promote the idea by entering it into wikipedia. Mind mapping promotes mind mapping and same for concept mapping? And surely mind manager is promting mind manager - thats advertising isnt it. I'm not trying here to sling any mud but i just dont know how else to make my case. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mark wogan (talkcontribs) 19:21, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Jonathan

Have seen your use of Twinkle and read the user page, but it's not obvious to me how to install it. I use Firefox and have Windows XP. I'm only pretty basic in setting up software. Any tips appreciated, thanks. --Paul144 (talk) 20:14, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I have the tabs. When you use TW like you did today on the dietary fiber page, do you use the "warn" tab when reverting? In other words, is that the most efficient tab for reverting spam?--Paul144 (talk) 21:24, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Vector Images

Hi,

I'm just wondering how vector images are created. I have the program Inkscape, but I can't seem to make the leap from raster to vector images. The Wal-Mart logo I uploaded for the Wal-Mart article was a PNG raster image. If I had known how to make it a vector image, I would have uploaded it as an SVG file instead. I'm guessing that when you replaced my PNG with the SVG, you used the existing image on Wikipedia to do so. I'm just curious how it's done, so I will know in the future.

Thanks,

Phillip (User:Pwu2005)

I may just be too much of a newbie to wikipedia, but I am confused as to how requesting someone look at a page and determine its necessity constitutes vandalism. If there is another way to go about the process I would surely use that. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Theanimalstyle86 (talkcontribs) 23:19, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Yeah

I was thinking maybe my hands will wilt off or something. :) I work overnight and it's something to do. The more tedious the better. :) --WoohookittyWoohoo! 01:33, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Awesome!!

Just wondering if it is possible for me to have the floating smiley face on my page and if so, how do i do it? --NefariousOpus 09:25, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

The code is below:
 <div style="position: fixed; left:1; right:0; bottom:0; display:block; ">
 </div>
Thanks a lot, I love this little guy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nefariousopus (talkcontribs) 01:40, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. That looks really cool. I've added it to the top of my user page. It brightens the place up. Now I just need to tidy the rest up but I'm really lazy. Thanks again. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 03:30, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Nicktrop logo.PNG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Nicktrop logo.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:17, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Warning to user:Krownhunter

While the edit to Phil_Elmore was inappropriate under WP:BLP, no attempt to explain this has been made to Krownhunter and the material was sourced (while not reliable enough to meet the requirements of BLP it shows good faith) and it appears more in line with edit warring between him and User:Stephen Mallory, and Mallory then used vandal templates impropriety (immediately using the level 3 warning template for a user with no previous history of unconstructive edits, and the repeat vandal template on his user page) to dismiss the opposing view. If you check the page history you will also see that I was reverted after cleaning up some sources and wording, and it seems that Mallory may not have understood the collaborative nature of wikipedia. Thanks for you time. --Nate1481(t/c) 12:03, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Re: Child Feedback

Quite frankly, the only source that I have is what is on the forums. Unless I can activly link to several posts, and even then forums might not be a "proper" source. Tutthoth-Ankhre (talk) 23:40, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Nickelodeon Newsletter - September 2008

Kudos

This newsletter was delivered to you by DeliveryBot.

delivering newsletter

hey, I just wanted to let you know that it is a best practice to sign the newsletter deliveries with a datestamp so that archive bots will properly take them away. just for the future. cheers, –xeno (talk) 01:27, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

by the way, from the looks of it, that newsletter wasn't properly closed. you're missing a closing div tag. –xeno (talk) 01:28, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Newsletter delivery request

I am from WP:MARINERS, and I was wondering if you could get your bot to deliver our newsletter to members that are on the mailing list? If you could, that would be swell! Meisfunny Gab How was I? 20:05, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Done and done. I did what you asked. Could you deliver them the first of each respectable month? Thanks! Meisfunny Gab How was I? 00:59, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
You can see this month's Newsletter here. Do you mind if we use the design for the Nickelodeon WikiProject's? If not, I can easily revert it to the old one. Just tell me before September 1st. Thanks! Meisfunny Gab How was I? 18:03, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
The image is great! Go right ahead. Thanks for everything! Meisfunny Gab How was I? 00:58, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, just to let you know I have nominated Image:RSSbutton.PNG for speedy deletion as it as a duplicate of Image:RSSbutton.png. Also, I am little bit concerned about the copyright status of the image; Image:Feed-icon.svg is licensed under a MPL/GPL/LGPL tri-license, however you have asserted that your image which uses Image:Feed-icon.svg is released into the public domain, which I don't think is legally possible, so you may want to have a look at that. Thanks, ~ AmeIiorate U T C @ 05:33, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Good to go?

Is our Newsletter still going to be delivered? I am pretty sure you took care of that, just making sure. Meisfunny Gab How was I? 19:11, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Nicktropolis-logo.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Nicktropolis-logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:20, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
