A tag has been placed on User:TheLoneAmigo89, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi, I'm not sure why I've been nominated for speedy deletion. TheLoneAmigo89 (talk) 13:13, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(@Hey man im josh: Hi, I'm not sure why I've been nominated for speedy deletion, I've only made one edit recently and it was purely factual in relation to an organisation I'm not involved with? TheLoneAmigo89 (talk) 13:14, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Deb. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.

Deb (talk) 13:36, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could you please be more specific as to which contribution you think is promotional? Unclear, I've only made one recent edit and it was purely factual. TheLoneAmigo89 (talk) 13:12, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Deb: please let me know in response to the above - very strange to delete me for no clear reason! TheLoneAmigo89 (talk) 13:16, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems like you have forgotten what you put on your user page, which was promoting a political party. Your user page is not for that purpose. See Wikipedia:User pages#What may I not have in my user pages?. Deb (talk) 13:52, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Deb, I'm not clear what I put on my user page that was promoting a political party as I cannot see any record of my previous page.
I believe I had used the user page to understand and test Wikipedia's editing language. However, I can't imagine that I used the page to promote any political party.
I'm incapable of mounting any defence against this incorrect claim with no record of my user page. TheLoneAmigo89 (talk) 00:26, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's possible this use of my userpage as an editing test space could fall under WP:STALE. However, I would further direct you to the note on WP:DELETEOTHER, notably:
"Except for blatant or serious matters, it is preferable to try contacting the user before deletion (see above)...
Take special care to speak appropriately and explain the concern; many users will take it as a personal affront or attack if an unknown user announces they are going to delete a userspace image or page, and an uncivil or heavy duty approach can discourage new users who are unaware of expectations and might enjoy contributing."
I don't believe you've clearly explained the concern in a way that's legible to me, a regular user of and supporter of Wikipedia, and have proceeded directly to speedy deletion without appropriate consultation or consideration. TheLoneAmigo89 (talk) 00:37, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Notably, you've specifically claimed that I appear to have a close connection to the subject apparently raised in my user page - of which I'm currently unaware of the content anyway. I can't defend myself against this claim as I have no idea what you've raised specifically.
I work in a role in road and vehicle safety - not for a political party. TheLoneAmigo89 (talk) 00:49, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You were contacted by User:Hey man im josh - see above.
You began by naming a "major Australian lobbying and strategic communications firm" - we don't use words like "major" in articles without backing them up with citations. Why write about this particular firm on your user page? In your second revision, you added a brief history of the firm and its connections with a particular political party. If you don't have any connections to either of these bodies, why write about them on your user page? As a regular user of Wikipedia, you should be aware of the guidelines on user pages. Deb (talk) 07:42, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As someone who has been editing Wikipedia for more than 20 years, you should be aware of the guidelines for how to approach users I quoted above: taking care to speak appropriately and explaining the concern.
You're referring to content that was apparently on my user page that I no longer have access to, so I can't offer any specific defence of that content. A reasonable thing to do would be to provide me with access to this, as the deleting administrator.
While I see how "naming a 'major' Australian lobbying and strategic communications firm" and providing a brief history of that firm - and I don't know what the firm was, honestly, I live in Canberra and I'm aware of multiple lobbying firms - may be an incorrect use of my user page, your specific statement in deleting my page was that it was "G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion".
What it sounds like is that I accidentally made edits to my user page rather than a page I was intending to edit.
Instead, I've been accused falsely of using Wikipedia in ways that run at cross-purposes to its mission, for my own personal benefit. TheLoneAmigo89 (talk) 01:00, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
