Information icon Hello, I'm Levi OP. I noticed that you recently removed content from SEPTA without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. The news stories weren't random, there are multiple articles from multiple sources reporting on thisLevi_OPTalk 20:15, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SEPTA Page Edit

[edit]

Hi, You removed the edit I made to my company page. I am the Social Media manager for SEPTA Customer Service and am responsible for looking for things like this. A customer on Twitter pointed out the inappropriate news information that someone added to our page and my superiors have asked for it to be removed. It is not germane to the history of our company nor is it a worthwhile story about the company overall. I am going to remove it again, please do not adjust my edit again. I appreciate your help.

Thank you TheBatmanCometh (talk) 20:28, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As the Social Media Manager for SEPTA Customer Service, you have a conflict of interest regarding this matter and should not be editing the page. I recommend you open a discussion at Talk:SEPTA regarding the appropriateness of the content. Please remember, SEPTA does not own this Wikipedia page, and neither you nor your company get to dictate its contents. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:43, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone can make an edit to a page, I was explaining to the moderator why I made the change that I did. The info I removed was not relevant to the overall page, it was more appropriate for a page on SEPTA comments, complaints or other issues, not SEPTA history or current changes to Service. No other news articles are posted to the page and the info I removed is not even the full stories. Thank you

Yes, anyone can edit a page, but not with impunity. It would be a very good idea for you to actually read the policies that we've been linking to you, namely WP:COI and WP:EDITWAR. After that, your next step is to start a discussion on Talk:SEPTA (again, as you've been told), and work with other editors to determine what, if anything, should change on the page. And just for your information, there have been no "moderators" involved in this so far. Most conflicts of this type are settled entirely among regular editors, unless a block or similar becomes necessary. -- Fyrael (talk) 22:17, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) : Anyone can edit the page, but according to Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy, not everyone should, and since you do have a conflict of interest, you have no reasonable expectation that your edits will be left intact. And you were not explaining to "the moderator" because there is no such thing at Wikipedia. We all edit as volunteers. Some editors have been granted administrator privileges, but none of the editors you've interacted in this matter are administrators. The article in question is on the topic of SEPTA; this topic includes a general description of the rail system, its history, and its current services, and any significant events that have occurred regarding the system. To be fair, I agree with you that the material may not be appropriate for the page, because it gives undue weight to a few incidents in a long history of this rail system, but since others have reverted your changes, and since you do have a conflict of interest, your best path is to discuss the matter on the article's talk page. I have started the discussion for you; see Talk:SEPTA#Incidents section. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 22:26, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
