[edit]Hello ThatAnalystGuy. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:ThatAnalystGuy. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=ThatAnalystGuy|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. 331dot (talk) 19:56, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
I am not looking or receiving any compensation for the creation of this article of the school. I am using sources outside of the school for information on the school. What do I need to do in order for the article to be published? Thanks! ThatAnalystGuy (talk) 22:30, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- You said that you worked for the school, that is sufficient to trigger the paid disclosure requirement. You do not need to be specifically paid for edits.
- We don't just want "sources outside of the school"; their content is what matters. You must have sources with significant coverage of the school and go into detail about its importance or significance. What you have now doesn't demonstrate that. What are your three best sources with significant coverage of the school? 331dot (talk) 22:50, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
MyHorryNews, HorryCountySchools, and SCHSL all cover the school in depth. ThatAnalystGuy (talk) 13:11, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- The school district is not an independent source for the school. The SCHSL is a primary source. The MyHorryNews is merely reporting routine activities of the school, not discussing what is significant or influential enough about it to warrant mention in a global encyclopedia- leaving aside its niche nature. If this is what you have, the school likely does not merit a Wikipedia article at this time.
- You must still formally declare your paid editing relationship(being an employee of the school). This is a legal requirement of the Wikipedia Terms of Use. 331dot (talk) 13:31, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- Gotcha. Thank you for clarifying all of this. So what can I do in order to help get this article posted? Could you help me with this? ThatAnalystGuy (talk) 17:42, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- Quite frankly I don't see a pathway forward to get the draft in the encyclopedia. Note that even Sandy Hook Elementary School does not have an article about it(though the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting does). I note this just to demonstrate that the vast majority of schools do not merit a Wikipedia article absent something unusual about it, such as it being a historic structure, or a unique/influential educational philosophy. Wikipedia is not a place to just tell about a school and its accomplishments. 331dot (talk) 17:58, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- Ahhh gotcha. So are y'all in the process of removing articles like that from other schools or no? ThatAnalystGuy (talk) 19:03, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- In the distant past, mere existence was sufficient to merit a school an article, though that is no longer the case. Policies have changed over time to be stricter about the criteria for inclusion. As such, it's probably not hard to find other articles about schools that do not meet current criteria. These articles are addressed when identified, though as this is a volunteer project where people do what they can when they can, this will take some time. 331dot (talk) 19:21, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
