[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Tghe-retford.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Hello

[edit]

Hope everything is alright. Wikiwoohoo 14:49, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Thanks for your message.
I am OK, I am just taking a break whilst I go through the latter stages of my treatment for social anxiety (though in reality, that'll take years to get anywhere near completion). Not on a strict Wikibreak, but when I have been here, I have been working on a new article on Digital radio in the United Kingdom (which still needs a lot of work done to it, especially an image or two), and I want to try and start one on the History of radio in the United Kingdom (currently planned as a template which can be found at User:Tghe-retford/Sandbox 2 - once a relatively good stub can be created to avoid CSD A1 speedy deletion criterion).
Take care. --tgheretford (talk) 15:08, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • All I can say is stay positive. Your work on here is great, but if you feel your energy should be devoted elsewhere then do what you feel you want to do. All the very best. Wikiwoohoo 17:50, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Smooth jazz cleanup taskforce

[edit]

It looks like that the cleanup taskforce for the smooth jazz article was a complete failure. The article hardly has had any major changes since it was listed. Is there any other alternatives to fix the article? ANDROS1337 18:48, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll read up on what options are left and see if there are any other avenues we can take. Though I will admit that a) its too big a task for me to fix and b) despite the concerns, it is not eligible for deletion. --tgheretford (talk) 18:51, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This message was copied and pasted from User talk:Andros 1337:
In response to the message you sent to my talk page, I have moved things on a bit by asking for a POV check on the article as well as asking one of the members of the cleanup taskforce (the only one who has jazz knowledge) if they will take up the task of cleaning the article. Though to be honest, the only way to get results sooner will be to be bold and improve the article ourselves. --tgheretford (talk) 19:08, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Schedule

[edit]

Hi there

I noticed that you made a lengthy comment on the inclusion of schedules within Wikipedia at Template talk:Schedule. There is a current discussion on the merit of including schedules and programme lists within Wikipedia at Wikipedia talk:What Wikipedia is not. Please feel free (and I would strongly advise) that you repeat your concerns you noted at the aforementioned talk page there. Regards. --tgheretford (talk) 11:26, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tghe!
Thank you for your note. I have left some comments on WT:NOT. I didn't just copy and paste the original comments, as the topic was slightly different in these two cases (on the template talk page, I mostly commented on the copyright status of television schedules, whereas the NOT thread focused mainly on whether they could be included because of prose concerns). At any rate, I've weighed in. Thanks again for the notice. Best wishes and happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 21:46, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated

[edit]

Hello there, I am a fellow member of Wikiproject jazz. I was wondering, if you had a moment to spare, if you would be willing to give your opinion on a matter at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 June 15 concerning a category I created. The category is [[Category:Jazz musicians of New Orleans]], and it has been proposed that the article be merged with Musicians of New Orleans and American jazz musicians. This is precisely why I created the category, because it seemed to me the birthplace of jazz music and continous modern symbol of jazz certainly deserves a category unto itself. Regardless of your opinion, I would greatly appreciate your input there so as to have a discussion over the matter. Thanks. (Mind meal 03:24, 15 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

New categories for jazz musicians

[edit]

Hello fellow member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Jazz! I am delivering this message to all members of the project to inform them of a major addition to the evolution of this project. Please see Category:Jazz musicians by genre to familiarize yourselves with the new categories for jazz musicians. Most of the genre categories contain sub-genres in their drop-down menus, so be sure to open them up! I am sending this to everyone to speed up the population of these categories. The sub-genres have been carefully researched to ensure they belong under their corresponding "mother genre"! And please, when in doubt do not categorize something via an assumption. Well, that about covers it! Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.(Mind meal 05:22, 25 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Advanced hi-tech mind stuff & CDs

[edit]

Hello, tghe-retford (Gareth),

Last year, you were kind enough to help out with some very useful advice on manipulating wikipedia pages. That helped to give me the confidence to go on to edit and contribute to many biological and other science pages. The advice and help you have freely given has been of great help to other people so thank you for that.

As you also have different issues to deal with, I thought it might be worth mentioning something that's now helping me deal with things. I came across the latest generation of "technological meditation" techniques which have been developed in the US. They work by generating binaural beats derived by feeding slightly different sound frequencies to each ear and that has the result of inducing deep meditational states and making a more efficient brain able to deal with the stresses of life. Despite what I've had to go through, I've found that this type of stuff has made me immune to depression and it's made me more positive and creative when having to face different issues and get additional help. It takes a bit of getting used to at first but I wouldn't be without it now. One version's available direct from the Centerpointe Institute in the US at http://www.centerpointe.com/ or from their UK agents, Lifetools at http://www.lifetools.com/centerpointe/CPlet.html. You can have a look and make your own mind up and it's worth reading the testimonials and letter sections of back issues of the Mind Chatter newsletters, e.g. Issue #130 (January 16, 2004), at http://www.centerpointe.com/newsletter/archives.php.

Anyway, best regards, Tim.

The article Digital radio in the United Kingdom you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold. It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Digital radio in the United Kingdom for things needed to be addressed. Neo Jazz

[edit]

well, what should i do?

this is the first time i have nominated anything for deletion.

maybe Neo jazz could be merged or something. you might know about this, as i saw from your user page that you are pretty involved in jazz.

thanks for your friendliness. Snail Doom 23:20, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In turn, this is likely, if not already a failure of notability guidelines. If possible, I also mentioned that a fleeting mention of neo jazz within the main jazz article may suffice as long as references are given for the genre. --tgheretford (talk) 16:02, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

that sounds good. yes, the real reason i came across it was working for the Wikification Drive and i saw it on the list and figured it would be better off deleted than wikified. so, this is a good compromise i think. thanks. Snail Doom 21:43, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CVU status

[edit]

The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you! Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Sky Multichannels.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sky Multichannels.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 09:33, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No chance of it ever meeting the fair use rationale poli... I mean guideline then, even though it is full and complete. Tagged as I6 of the candidates for speedily deletion, and I have sent warnings to all WikiProjects I am associated with which deal with logos and images which require fair use. This is happening to a lot of television and radio logos and it worries me that the direction of Wikipedia policy is to delete all television and radio images, regardless of declared fair use rationales. --tgheretford (talk) 10:33, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Yorkshire_Radio.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Yorkshire_Radio.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 08:24, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Geez... I'm not having much luck with these am I...? --tgheretford (talk) 11:49, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Luckily, this image is released under a free licence - no fair use rationale required! :-D
