External links to ioncinema.com
[edit]Hello Tessioncin. Are you affiliated with ioncinema.com? Please be aware that adding a large number of external links to Wikipedia might give the appearance that you are spamming. Thanks. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 17:09, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hello and thank you for letting me know.
- I am a friend of the owner of Ion Cinema and doing this work for free for him since he is busy writing content for the site most of the time
- I saw the message and briefly read over the guidelines while I was posting. TO be honest I didn't worry about it, so thank you for writing me! What I am doing does not seem like spamming or a large number of links to me. Especially considering several other similar sites ( imdb for example) do the same on many many many more wikipedia pages, whereas we choose just our absolute top content and provide the external link to a few articles per month that are in recent news for cinephiles and add links where it is relevant. Could this really be construed as bad?
- Then again I amy not have fully understood the guidelines. I'm not posting links of repeat information, I'm not posting more than one link per article, all the links are relevant to the article, I understand that the no follow attribute is applied and am not doing this for any purpose but providing cinephiles an alternative view point for a very small portion of the film or director that we covered this month.
- Would it be any better if is spread my posts throughout the month? As opposed to all in one day?
- If that's the case that would seem silly to me as it wouldn't prevent spam, but would waste my time logging in and out daily to control the amount of edits I do per day even though it would all be the same in the end.
- Do you really think I could get in trouble for this type of posting? Tessioncin (talk) 21:35, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but I suspect that your edits run afoul of our conflict of interest guidelines. (Adding them all at once versus throughout the month is not an issue.) It is not clear to me that the links you are adding would meet with our guidelines on external links. Wikipedia is not intended to be a guide to links to the rest of the Internet (this is primarily an encyclopedia, after all) even though a limited number of external links such as those to IMDB have been agreed to, as decided by community consensus. As to the appropriateness of your links, it might be worth posing the question to editors who are familiar with film articles—you could do that at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Films. (By the way, the Wikipedia convention is to add responses below, not above, in discussions. I hope you don't mind that I re-formatted your comments although I did not change the content.)
