Image permission problem with Image:BOZE Seal.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:BOZE Seal.jpg. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. JonRidinger (talk) 19:28, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image without license

Unspecified source/license for Image:Boze Conference Center.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Boze Conference Center.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 23:38, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:KENT STATE STARK SEAL.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:KENT STATE STARK SEAL.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:29, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I corrected the Kent State Stark article so that the seal is on the page and in turn corrected the needed fields on the fair-use rationale on the image itself. I also removed the template on the image so it shouldn't be deleted. Best advice when adding images on Wikipedia, make sure they have a definite purpose and are placed in the appropriate article as soon as possible with the full rationale. Also, should the Stark seal need to be used on any other associated articles, it will need a rationale filled out for each article it is placed in (see Image:KSU seal.png for an example). Thanks for re-adding it! --JonRidinger (talk) 20:31, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted pictures

[edit]

The pictures you recently tried to re-add into the Betsy Boze and Kent State University Stark Campus articles were deleted because they did not have sufficient information as to their copyright status. Notices were placed on the respective pictures and on this talk page at least one week before they were deleted. Adding the link back to the article doesn't restore the picture; it simply creates the caption box around a "red link" meaning the link goes to something that doesn't exist. It looks like this:

File:BOZE.BETSY.PATIO.jpg
Dr. Boze

I placed a tag requesting additional info on one of the pictures in question and other editors placed tags on additional pictures in question, but only an administrator can delete the pictures (in other words, I didn't personally delete them). If you have plans to re-upload them, before doing so there are a few things to make sure you have:

  • 1. Even if you are the photographer, because the pictures are on the Kent State Stark website, Wikipedia and its editors will assume the pictures are owned by Kent State Stark and are therefore subject to copyright laws (not to mention that we would have no way to confirm you are the actual photographer). What you would need to do is submit an actual release from Kent State Stark that the pictures in question are released to the public domain, meaning anyone can use the pictures without restriction. Instructions on how to submit this are on the templates preceding this post on your talk page.
  • 2. See if a "public domain" version of the image can be obtained. Since Dr. Boze is a living person, anyone with a digital camera can take a picture of her (including herself!) and submit it to Wikimedia Commons as a public domain image rather than using the pictures on the Kent State Stark website. That would satisfy any copyright problems and be available to use in any relevant Wikipedia articles. Make sure you do NOT submit any of the pictures on the Kent State Stark website to Wikimedia Commons because they will end up getting deleted too.

If you have any questions, please ask. Also, make sure you use the "Show Preview" button before making changes to an article to make sure your changes are not only correct, but also look good. --JonRidinger (talk) 21:16, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted File:Boze.Betsy.Patio.jpg as it was clearly the same image as seen on the KSU Stark website. I found another image of her that you also uploaded and put that into her biography. It also appears to be a professional portrait of her and my suspicion is that its copyright belongs to KSU as a work for hire - if I can find it elsewhere on the web I will delete it too. If KSU wants to release an image of Dr. Boze that they own, then they should send an email to the Wikipedia's OTRS - see Wikipedia:OTRS. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:34, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
