WP:ALM ratings

[edit]

I noticed you set up a rating system for the Alternative Wikiproject. Good job; it was somehting I've thought about doing for a bit. I'll get around to evaluating some B-class articles soon, but I'm curious as to which GA articles you think we should rate A-Class. WesleyDodds 10:22, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for putting in the importance-level tags. Personally I think the top level should be ten or less pages; basically, the stuff that would most definitley appear in a print article or is essential to understanding the genre an music. Aside from the ones you've tagged so far, I'd also include Nevermind, Grunge music, Indie rock, Pearl Jam, and The Smiths. Let me know if you think we shoudl throw in anything else. WesleyDodds 18:19, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Should Perry Farrell be Mid or High importance? He was a member of lots of bands besides Jane's Addiction, and he started and ran Lollapalooza. WesleyDodds 01:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think The Smashing Pumpkins is A-Class yet? I've been working on it forever but didn't want to change the rating if necessary because of that. WesleyDodds 02:04, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to tag a few more band members, albums, and songs. However, once we cover the basic ones (Your Eddie Vedders/Morning Glorys/"Loser"'s) I think we can just leave it at that until we start working on the ones we've already tagged. WesleyDodds 03:30, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please be very careful when attributing licensing information to images. In the case of the above image, you noted that it was licensed under cc-by-sa-2.5 (Creative Commons Attribution Sharealike). The "Sharealike" section of that license is the one that is important to Wikipedia; it is a copyleft license compatible with the GFDL, which is what Wikipedia's content is licensed under. However, the image was actually licensed under a different license on the source page, as cc-by-nc-nd-2.0 (Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Non-Derivative). The "Non-commercial" part of that license is important; it is not compatible with the GFDL, and it is not allowed to be used on Wikipedia. If you have any further questions, you should feel free to ask me either here or on my talk page. Thanks, —bbatsell ¿? 06:01, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some CC licenses are great, and some are incompatible. (And you can tell for sure what CC license it is by clicking on the licensing information on the Flickr page — it'll redirect you to a page with the license printed at the top.) Basically, CC works by pairing 4 different provisions, leading to 16 different combinations. Any combination without "nc" or "nd" listed in it is a-okay for Wikipedia. However, any combination listed with either of those is not and is eligible for deletion unless fair use is asserted in accordance with Wikipedia's fair use guidelines (which can basically be boiled down to: if the image can be replaced with a free image, then we can't use it). Copyright issues suck, but unfortunately we have to deal with them :) —bbatsell ¿? 06:10, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WikiProject Alternative music member.
WikiProject Alternative music, in my eyes, has proved to be successful "improving the encyclopaedic coverage of articles relating to alternative rock", and improving their quality as well. One specific example I have witnessed is The Smashing Pumpkins article. The page has gone from a mediocre work, to GA status, to FA nomination. Only appropriate, as the Pumpkins are undeniably one of the most influential alternative rock bands on the 1990's and beyond.
This is the stuff I wish to achieve with the somewhat recently ressurected WikiProject Rock music. I hope to also attract attention to rock music articles of all sorts, and hopefully change some to GA or FA status. I invite you to come join us, and not only be a member of alternative Wikipedians, but the rockin' ones as well.
Rock on.

RHCP Article

[edit]

Teemu, I agree with your fair assessment of the article. It is difficult to continue citing the exact same source, simply a different page; virtually all sources for the entire history will be from Keidis' memoir, Scar Tissue. I attempted to delete the unnecessary "Media Appearances" section, though it was reverted and revamped, though, to no avail. I'll fix some of the small edits which need immediate fixing, but, overall, there isn't too much that needs to be done to improve the article. Regards, NSR77 03:38, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Albrecht Rodenbach

[edit]

Can I ask about your reasoning in changing the Albrecht Rodenbach article from Class=B to Class=Start? What do you feel is missing from the article? --Bejnar 21:57, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Alternative music and sources

[edit]

As part of the Alternative music WikiProject, we're gathering a list of sources on this page. Could you take a look and perhaps add any written references you have access to? Thanks! CloudNine 09:58, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just Like Heaven

[edit]

Hey, I'm currently working on Just like Heaven (song). I read somewhere (I don't remember where) that the song only entered the Billboard top 40 for a week in either 1987 or 1988. Since you have access to the Billboard charts, can you verify this and if so, can you add a citation? Thanks. WesleyDodds 10:43, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Teemu08: The folks from WikiProject Album have decided to experiment with a group collaboration. Some of us have decided to give a go at the YHF article over the next week or so. We haven't done this before, so we'll see what happens. Since you have done a good bit of work on the article, I thought you'd like to know what is going on. Delisting of Paul Hackett

[edit]

Thanks for handling the delisting of the Paul Hackett article, but you forgot to update the article's talk page by leaving a note about the delisting and by updating the GA tag to DelistedGA. I have fixed both issues myself. Happy editing! --Jayron32|talk|contribs 05:34, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seatrain

[edit]

Well done! I have been planning to make a Seatrain page for a while now. Can't believe they didn't have an entry on Wikipedia. I'm sure I'll contribute to the Seatrain article too. I've been filling some blanks in the music field too - there were no articles on Moongarden, Johnny A, Ten Jinn, Deus Ex Machina or Babylon, among others. Gekritzl 22:30, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uncle Tupelo page

[edit]

Really fair and balanced to take everything from the Tweedy lovefest book by Kot. I made some suggestions on the talk page there.

Props on the Uncle Tupelo featured article man, love that band and I always love to see little known things that I love on the featured articles.

Fair use rationale for Image:Trouble Single.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Trouble Single.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 00:58, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Toni Childs.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Toni Childs.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 07:32, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blackhawks List of players

[edit]

Hey not a problem, forgive me if I put this in the wrong place, but I'm a little behind in the intricacies of wikipedia. I just basically know how to add things to mostly already formatted pages. I was surprised you changed the existing format and got rid of player numbers and stuff. I figured it was a useful tool for people to be able to look up information like that.

As for the Blackhawk media guide, that's what the team self-publishes every season. You can buy them at the UC (United Center) or I think Hawkquarters use to sell them online (they probably still do).

Here's a link: [1]

I hope that helps. It's published annually by the Hawks media department I believe (there's no author per say), but I assume if credit needs to be given you could list page numbers. The page numbers for player uniform numbers throughout the history of the Hawks are p.194-203. Also, I'm not sure if I understand having Kane on the list if Toews isn't also. Shouldn't all the current Hawks be added and maybe boldfaced? I understand you deleted a lot of players that were on the list and re-did the formatting. If, you decide you want to add back any of the players I'd be willing to help out. The media guide comes in rather handy for that sort of thing. It has the all-time roster as well as Hawk stats for every player.
