What has been classified today as 'Buddhism' by the West is a form of 'Sramana practice',which is one of the many Vedic practices for self realisation. So,essentially just like 'Hinduism','Buddhism' is also a misnomer for the many practices emerging from the Vedas. Also, both Hinduism and Buddhism have been misclassified as religions,as 'Hindu' is a geographical term to address the people living in Hind. And 'Buddha' means 'one who has risen above his intellect' in Sanskrit. So both of these so called religions, are Vedic practices, and are part of the 'Vedanta way of life',just like Jainism and Sikhism.
