DoxBox

[edit]

First, thanks for the disclosure and for sticking to editing the talk pages of these articles and thanks for furthering free software disk encryption software. However, statements covered in Wikipedia need to be verifiable. As long as there are no reliable sources covering DoxBox, I think it should not be added to any articles. -- intgr [talk] 00:30, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the fact that it exists as a software project is verified simply by visiting the GitHub page (https://github.com/t-d-k/doxbox). I suspect you mean it's not notable enough. My thinking on this is that FreeOTFE is referenced in a number of places as an example of deniable encryption, and as this is now a dead project, these refs should be removed.
DoxBox is essentially a maintained and updated version of FreeOTFE so could be substituted.
However it is only a suggestion; I do not know enough about Wikipedia to make a judgement myself, and I respect your opinion. Squte (talk) 11:36, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

While not forbidden, it's discouraged to rely on self-published or primary sources like GitHub, because anyone can set up a repo there and claim anything they want. The guideline on reliable sources sums up the kinds of sources we're looking for. Notability is also related, but only applies when you want to create a new article.
As far as I know, the developer(s) of FreeOTFE went missing. Because DoxBox not vetted by the original authors, it's best to describe it as a new project (fork), so it does not "inherit" the coverage about the original FreeOTFE. -- intgr [talk] 17:49, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
