Former routes in county navboxen

I noticed you added U.S. Route 140 to the Carroll, Baltimore, and Baltimore City county road navboxen. While I realize there is nothing that says you cannot do that, I do not think US 140 should be there for a couple of reasons. One, people might not notice or understand the parentheses so they might think US 140 is an existing route. Two, the route of US 140 is mostly redundant with the existing MD 140, entirely so in Baltimore city and county.  V 00:32, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

I debated adding it in the navboxes because it's not a current route, but then saw (for example) I-170 in the Baltimore City navbox. I'm not entirely sure what the right answer is here. There is a separate article for the former U.S. Route, but it is also mentioned in the article for MD 140, and the routing of the two is identical in Baltimore City and County. Off the top of my head I am not sure if the late 1970s routing swap between MD 140 and MD 97 in Carroll County is mentioned in the MD 97 article. If it's in both the MD 140 and MD 97 articles I'd say we don't really need it in the Carroll County navbox. It is of interest, though, I think, as a former alternate for U.S. 40. I looked in the Baltimore City navbox and did not see I-170. Then I remembered there is Template:Roads in Baltimore area. I created the county-specific templates partially as a way to replace the Roads in Baltimore area template because the definition of "Baltimore area" is not provided and open to interpretation, whereas county definitions are absolute. I-170 really should not be included in the Roads in Baltimore area template, especially as it implies the Interstate currently exists. I checked the MD 97 article and it does mention the late 1970s routing swap. Again, I am in favor of not including former routes in the navbox at all unless we can come up with a good system for handling them.  V 17:45, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I must have been confused. I remembered seeing Template:Roads in Baltimore area on a page, and checking it for former routes -- I must have thought it was the Baltimore City navbox. I agree with your logic, and will self-revert shortly. Tckma (talk) 17:51, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
I know I'm new to this conversation, but couldn't the road be added in a "Former Roads" section (or something like that)? Allen (talk) 21:41, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
Well, there's List of former Maryland state highways and List of United States Numbered Highways. The latter includes US 140. But I'm not sure that's obvious enough. Tckma (talk) 16:58, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
