Please explain

[edit]

Taokaka (talk · contribs) started editing in September 2015 and your "previous" account EnRouteAviation (talk · contribs) in October 2015. Could you explain this, and list all accounts you used to edit this wiki? Could you also explain this removal [1]? Materialscientist (talk) 02:17, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Materialscientist: I had originally made Taokaka (talk · contribs) as my main account but then made a second account (EnRouteAviation (talk · contribs)) later on. After using my second account more often, I decided to stick with using this account. As my talk page (talk) began to fill up, I thought it'd be best to switch to my older account in order to maintain privacy. As for that other removal, the WP:AIRPORTS talk page had received a significant amount of vandalism and/or targeting/threatening certain users at that time. SEE: [2] and [3] Other users had removed these comments in justification of banning specific mentioning of other users/IP's in a negative context, so I decided to follow along in order to eradicate vandalism. (which now I believe was a mistake on my part...). SEE: [4] As of recently, I had removed my own comment thread because the situation was already taken care of on WP:Airports and was called out for WP:CIVIL violations, in which I had previously conducted this due to previous behaviors/patterns that took place at WP:AIRPORTS. Can you please explain to me why you are discussing this now... as this revert occurred almost 1 month ago...? Taokaka (talk) 02:42, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This account blocked one week

[edit]

I have blocked your other account indefinitely and this one for one week for using sockpuppets in violation of policy. Your reverts at Los Angeles International Airport where you edit from both accounts violates the policy as you're appearing to tag team with your sock to subvert 3RR and otherwise engage in an edit war with multiple accounts at your disposal. Please do not use alternate accounts like this. As always, blocks can be appealed using the {{unblock|your reason here}} template. only (talk) 19:40, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]

I have blocked you indefinitely for making threats against another editor. I have disabled your email access to prevent you abusing it. You can use your talk page if you wish to appeal but any abuse and it will be locked. BethNaught (talk) 20:04, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet investigation

[edit]

Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Taokaka, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

An Explanation

[edit]

*Note—Pinging all admins involved:

*Note—Please note that this is not an unblock request, but rather an apology/explanation for my scrutinized behavior:

  • When I first began editing on Wikipedia, I had created my original account Taokaka (talk · contribs) for all-purpose/neutral/generic editing back in September (w/o any specific WikiProject involved). After a little bit of editing, (mainly test edits, since I was a newcomer at the time) I created my second account EnRouteAviation (talk · contribs) for the purposes of working on the WP:Airports & WP:Airlines projects, since I have a passion for aviation. As I continued editing from EnRouteAviation, this ultimately became my main account since I was working on aviation-related articles at the time. After a long while of editing, I had first ran into trouble regarding the usage of both accounts (at once) here: [5]. As I thought I had been using these two accounts (at once) in a correct manner, I had gotten myself into even more trouble while taking part in reverting a controversial edit at Los Angeles International Airport, per this: [6] and [7]. I'll admit that at the time, I had a vague understanding that it was highly discouraged to use two accounts in this manner, but I had no intention of acting in a deceptive manner towards the reverting user. Ultimately Only rightfully blocked my alt. account indefinitely and my main account for 1 week [8].
  • Before this initial block though, I was in a dispute with multiple editors about my misconduct-behavior in the means of removing talk page comments on WT:AIRPORTS. See this: [9]. After all of the dispute, I wanted to switch my alt./main account to the other account in order to avoid continued disputes like this in the future. Ultimately, this was when things started to go downhill from there. Because of the fact that I had switched my accounts, I had labeled EnRouteAviation as "Discontinued", which was false as I was clearly still using the account, which was very poor behavior on my part, and had lead to the initial block that Only made.
  • Because of the fact that I was trying to avoid more disputing/arguments, I became very discouraged that both of these accounts had some sort of "block history" on them, since I wanted to be of "good-standing" on Wikipedia, which was also why I began to help fight vandalism at WP:AIV. Before the 1 week block was up, I had created a sock account so that I could get in contact with an administrator to block Taokaka indefinitely, rather than just 1 week. See this: [10]. This was because I wanted a clean start from my incompetent behavior, and I wanted to put everything from the past aside by getting/having a clean-slate so that I wouldn't be associated with this past behavior.
  • This kind of behavior was a horrible decision for me to make, as I completely deceived other editors into thinking that I was a completely different editor/person, when in fact I was that same person. I had completely failed to "retire" my old account(s) per WP:SOCK (Legitamete Uses). Which led to the ongoing "game of chicken" (if you will...) of me evading blocks via IP addresses (from my Mobile Hotspot Network) and creating sock accounts. Although I was determined to hide my identity, I now understand that this sort of behavior is completely unexceptionable here.
  • In conclusion, I am not asking for an unblock, because I know that I've already lost the trust of the admins by the means of deceiving them (you) along with other editors by committing sockpuppetry/block evasion. At this point, I'd find it hard to believe that WP:STANDARD OFFER could remedy the situation for me here. I never wanted to "play this game" in the first place, but rather I was just lost by the means of being oblivious to the Wikipedia guidelines/policies. Instead of continuously socking and committing block evasion, I should have acted in a more mature fashion by actually "Disclosing" my account instead of continuously deceiving other editors/admins by using both accounts simultaneously.
  • I know it is hard to understand and to trust me at this point (since I have created so many sock accounts) and to move forward with this since I have acted deceivingly on lots of occasions by using multiple different accounts and IP's. I really don't see a remedy that could fix the situation entirley, as I have lost the trust of the Wikipedia community altogether. I immensely regret my misconduct-actions on Wikipedia, and am at a complete loss as from where to go from here, and obviously I will be taking a very long break from editing on Wikipedia.

Thank you, Taokaka (talk) 05:48, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I suspect you would have a better chance of unblock than most. You would need to repent for the obvious vandalism (this is what got you really blocked), and really sort out your editing at AIV - not just the removals which I've complained about repeatedly, but some of the below-par warning and reporting. Perhaps a break will do you good. It's worth considering that fighting is not viewed positively, and that this is an encyclopaedia. -- zzuuzz (talk) 06:30, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This message completely fails to address the immediate cause of me blocking you indefinitely, namely this diff (admin only link). Given that, I will not unblock you. Obviously I would respect a consensus of admins if they disagreed with me. BethNaught (talk) 07:52, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. This isn't just about the network of socks the user has been using....there are some deeply troubling actions that came from the main account before all this socking has occurred in the last month. only (talk) 11:10, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Some of your reports at WP:AIV have been helpful, but at the same time you have engaged in good hand/bad hand sockpuppetry using various IPs, sometimes simultaneously. Even now as I'm writing this, I am pretty sure that I have just seen some of your reports at AIV, so it's hard to believe that you are "taking a very long break from editing on Wikipedia". Still, I don't think you are a hopeless case, but you might be relatively young. If you would be able to stick to one account only and make a proper unblock request, one of the admins just might give you a benefit of a doubt. Widr (talk) 22:18, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
