Patrolling!
I see that you're currently patrolling new pages. Could you lend a hand with the backlog? That would be great. No reply needed. Happy editing. Keegantalk 05:05, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
I hate to say it, but RfA does not work the way you suggest.
Old grudges die hard.
It's a great sentiment though...maybe one day it'll be the truth! :) dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 01:50, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I disagree. But, looks like we'll have to wait until Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Naerii2 to find out :-) Tan | 39 16:12, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- (again, I don't mean to offend, and you're a good guy, and all...) Disagree probably shows a bit of naivety, or maybe just not being around long enough. But we'll see next time around. (I use some of my old RfAs as a reference for my thoughts here ;) 01:48, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I didn't know that when I suggested that I nominate him. Now that I do, I will wait and see what he says. Thanks for letting me know that. Cheers, Razorflame 16:33, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, no problem. I think DHMO is quite ready now, to be honest, but with the current RfA climate... well, I'd just be careful on jumping any proverbial gun. Tan | 39 16:39, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Lady Aleena's future
Tanthalas39...Several people have expressed an interest in my next probable nomination for adminship. Messaging people when it happens would look a lot like canvassing, so I would prefer not doing that. If you are interested in it, you could add this to your watchlist. If it is created, you will know, maybe even before I do depending on how often you check your watchlist. If you wish to gush prior to it being officially up, have fun, but only when it happens please. I am in no particular rush. Have a very nice day! :) - LA @ 10:12, 6 May 2008 (UTC) |
WP:AIV report
Suprised to see you reporting this one [1]. I've declined, per when reporting at WP:AIV be sure the vandal is currently active and also insufficent recent warnings. Sorry matey. Pedro : Chat 14:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, no need to apologize, I don't really have a vested interest in their block. Not sure why you are "surprised", though, as I assume you took a good look through their history. They're from India I presume, so catching them active is hard; I wake up to blanked AfDs and such. They had a final warning issued by me a couple days ago, and I thought the history (3 CSD tag removals, AfD tag removal, AfD blanking, talk page "fraud", etc) was more than enough to show a vandal-only account. However, yer the admin, I'll obviously defer. Thanks for looking into it, anyway. Tan | 39 15:02, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, well might not be long before you are an admin....:) The thing here is that the problem centers around an article that is at AFD. Now you've nicely asked the guy to participate, and he hasn't. But to block him disenfranchises him from potentially arguing his cause. In addition there's the lack of warning. I'd drop him a polite but firm note saying that if he continues he may be blocked and again urging him to look at the deletion debate. It is problematic, as we don't really have a board for reporting in this instance (it's not a WP:LTA case which is the closest). To be honest, many admins would probably have whacked the hammer, so you're unlucky that you got me instead - I'm too nice! I'm not saying your report was wrong, and I agree there is a problem when you're following an intermitent vandal who operates on another time zone - hard to "catch them in the act" so to speak! Pedro : Chat 15:15, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yep. Again, no worries - it's a weird situation. He hadn't responded to the four or so messages about various things yet... ah, why am I still defending this? Silly. I'll just keep an eye on it, and maybe drop you a note if things escalate any further. And you're right, as usual; probably best to err on the side of caution. Thanks Pedro - Tan | 39 15:19, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

lo,
Just popping over to ask if you want to co-adopt Retro, not that I am suggesting that neither of us is incapable of doing it alone, I am more than willing to adopt him, its just that you are both on the same wikiproject and (I would assume) in the same time zone that co-adoption may benefit retro2 somewhat. However if you don't want to, I will go ahead and adopt him and you can assist in him in pretty much the manner that you set out on his talkpage. Please drop me a line on my talk page. Also thanks for calling me a great editor, twas really nice of you to say such kind words.(P.S., althought this is my first message on your talk page, I have seen around and I have always thought that your a pretty fine editor.)--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 23:46, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hey there Kerotan, thanks for the message. Since he already contacted you and you were the initial offer anyways, you should go ahead and be his mentor. If you have any questions or the time zone thing becomes an issue, I'll help out then (if Retro wants). Hopefully will run into you more often on here. Tan | 39 23:54, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Trip
He is a persistent one that one, problem here is that its very difficult for any POV warrior to see beyond their vision or they wouldn't have the problem in the 1st place. However that being said never let anyone run you off from doing what you love. Tirronan (talk) 19:25, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
He'll either stop or get banned, he has been blocked already for stuff like he is doing now. Tirronan (talk) 20:33, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Well after blasting me he decided the better part of valor was to leave the article alone. I have to say that biting one's tounge around here helps more than a bit. I hope he will come to see that after the heat there is a lot of value to what we do. Tirronan (talk) 20:25, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey Tan
Sorry I didn't respond last night... I'll take a closer look at your request tonight. I got home from work and crashed... slept for 11 hours last night! (I usually only sleep for 4-6 hours.) Balloonman (talk) 15:26, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- No worries; there's absolutely no hurry about it. Tan | 39 15:29, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi, sorry to bug you, but two editors are teaming up to continually add the unverifiable content back to this article. Can you help at all, explaining this issue to them? People who understand WP:V seem in very short supply lately. --Rividian (talk) 02:09, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
but would you allow a gorilla to sign with the oakland raiders?
I'm glad somebody caught the reference :) I love that book too! I went with apples and uranium for 'crats and ArbCom because the latter of each pair is fairly radioactive in my opinion. I guess apples and baby wolverines would have worked too. Cheers! --JayHenry (talk) 15:36, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ha! Those "scenario questions" are the best part of the book, in my opinion. I break those out at campfires and the like, and they always generate the most bizarre discussions. The gorilla/Raiders one is one of the best, for sure. My other favorites are the Wizard who can make you more attractive for money, and the Canadian Football League one - "you come across a game pitting the Toronto Argonauts against the Sasquatchewan Roughriders. Do you watch it?" Great stuff. Tan | 39 15:41, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Rfb participation thanks
Hello, Tan.
I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. You may have found nothing after looking for days, but enough others did find something :) . Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your support. -- Avi (talk) 18:56, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
My RfA
Hi Tanthalas; I wanted to say thank you for supporting my request for adminship, which passed with 100 supports, 0 opposes and 1 neutral. I wanted to get round everybody individually, even though it's considered by some to be spam (which... I suppose it is! but anyway. :)). It means a lot to me that the community has placed its trust in my ability to use the extra buttons, and I only hope I can live up to its expectations. If you need anything, or notice something that bothers you, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks again, PeterSymonds | talk 21:59, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
RFA Thanks
Thanks for your support at my recent Request for adminship. It’s probably good that we don’t agree all the time; I’m the first to admit that occasionally I can be completely out to lunch, and somebody’s got to be around to point it out! I hope you find I live up to your expectations. Best, Risker (talk) 16:00, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Corp vs Org
Genuine question - am I citing WP:ORG inappropriately? Both WP:CORP and WP:ORG go to the same page. I was merely choosing it because it had one less letter to type. However, I don't really wish to appear foolish in my AfD participation... Tan | 39 18:14, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, looks like someone merged them. I'm behind the times. They're both the same. Stifle (talk) 21:15, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Needed help
Hey as i had created akshay zimare article which was eventually deleated due to my lack of knowledge to follow the wikipedia guidelines as i am a novice to wikipedia. I would like to also deleate the archive responses of other users about akshay zimare article as that article no longer exists. Please guide me to deleate those comments cuz those are kinda annoying. Writing in anticipation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Enigmatic1986 (talk • contribs) 17:51, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- Not sure what comments you want deleted. If you are referring to the comments on your own talk page, just go ahead and delete them yourself. Tan | 39 17:56, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
re:
Hmm, interesting. I will look over it further. You might want to make a new section for WP:3O on the Harlem Heights talk page which links to that. MrPrada (talk) 15:31, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe. I'm trying to stay on the DL about this, as I hate WikiDrama. Feel free to use any of the diffs yourself, obviously. Perhaps I'll jump in the fray if I think it's appropriate. Tan | 39 15:32, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Re
That would be an interesting request : ) I honestly didn't see anything wrong with my comments, but I suppose it's that emotional barrier the internet puts up. Wisdom89 (T / C) 16:16, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
AfD procedures
It seems very unusual to close an AjD which you have been involved in, if you do the nomination or vote in the AfD, I would say it is common sense not to close it yourself. AfD's are not withdrawn, consensus should be reached first and the 5 days should be run unless there is a clear conclusion drawn from a wide range of responses. I'm reffering to Australian Council for Educational Research btw ... Happy Trails. -- maelgwn - talk 12:29, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- I disagree. As the AfD nominator, closing as a keep - especially since that's the way the consensus was going, and in light of editor comments - is not a rare event. If I had somehow closed it as delete (I am not an admin, I couldn't have done that), you would be correct. If anyone watchlisting my page here wants to chime in, feel free. Tan | 39 13:08, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- It was appropriate for you to close as a keep, since you appear to have quickly decided - even as part of the comments supporting your original deletion nomination (!) that what you were really after was a rewrite, not deletion. Just for the record, I did read your comments! Cheers Murtoa (talk) 14:04, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, it is not uncommon on AfD for the editor who nominates the article for deletion to withdraw that nomination, and an admin would normally speedy close on that basis unless there was significant consensus to delete apparent in the discussion. The only problem was the discussion was not closed properly (there are some templates you need to insert at the top and bottom of the discussion page, so just adding the closure text doesn't work properly). Anyway, I've closed it now. I also read your comments carefully, and despite your valid objections to the state of the article at the time, you did suggest stubbifying the article (which you quite rightly did) which implies rewriting rather than deletion. I've added a few external references, and I'll work on it a bit more tomorrow. --Canley (talk) 15:03, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Return
I know you've all been worried sick about me and my recent dearth of edits. Fear not; I have returned home in one piece. A lot of business travel culminating with a three-night Vegas trip in which the Venetian poker tables were very, very good to me. Anyways, WikiParticipation will be ramping back up. Reading Keeper's page, I missed some interesting events that I probably wouldn't have commented on anyways :-) See you in the usual places - Tan | 39 02:09, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

IMDb content is copyrighted, same as anybody else's. If somebody wants to take information from IMDb and use it in a non-infringing manner in an article (not a simple cut-and-paste), they should be aware that it's not really considered a reliable source. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know, that's why I tagged G12. I approached Gwen Gale in that fashion just to be friendly, and there was a small chance I was mistaken about something. Anyway, it got deleted per G12, as I originally tagged, so no worries ;-) Thanks for the verification, tho. Tan | 39 17:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I speedied this as Vandalism - includes clear misinformation. Closed the AfD - no big deal, I've done that loads of times! Fritzpoll (talk) 22:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- I saw, I guess it wasn't "100% clear" to me at first (I like to err on the side of caution) but I'm certainly not going to argue ;-) Tan | 39 22:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

You uploaded the image with this note: "Per 30/May/2008 phone call with NYPL, image is permitted to be used on Wikipedia. No written permission will be granted." Main problem; written permission must be presented for this type of image thru OTRS. When you uploaded this, the following message appeared on the image page - which is pretty descriptive of these problems:
- This media file, which you just uploaded, has been listed for speedy deletion because you indicated that only Wikipedia has permission to use this file. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, since explicit permission to use it was given, this is in fact not the case. [2] [3] Please do not upload any more files with this restriction on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it. See our non-free content guidelines for more information.
- If you did not create this media file but want it to be used on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may replace this message with one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license. SkierRMH (talk) 17:29, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, thank you. I found this - Wikipedia:Example_requests_for_permission - which pretty much confirms that this image won't be able to be used here, unless I can get written permission. While I did get verbal permission to use this on Wikipedia, apparently that doesn't meet the requirements (at least, anymore). That's too bad, really hard to find images for this particular article. Ah well. Thanks for your time in responding. Tan | 39 17:34, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
