Welcome Back Tanner

[edit]

The Sweathogs and I have missed ya.

I am having fun over at the Burger King legal issues article, there is one guy arguing everything and it is driving me nuts. He obviously does not know the policies of WP, his knowledge of grammar is non-existent and he just can't put two and two together. He has made some good suggestions, but others are over the top.

Otherwise I am OK. When you get to Boston, you get to Boston.

Good to have you back.

Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 22:49, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back! Can't wait to see you on Talk:Cuisine of Hawaii. We need a peer review. :) Viriditas (talk) 08:42, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What, too good to hang with the Sweathogs now that you're a hoity-toity Admin? --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 05:14, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, I seem to be too good to hang with everyone (*duck*). I got the admin bit and then my life got...complicated. I'm working on getting back into it by trying to edit a page or two a day, for the time being, as a start. --Thespian (talk) 05:45, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Back to bidness

[edit]

A couple of food portal/WikiProject stuff:

  • The To Do list for the project that appears in the banners, where is it located? I want to add the GA/FA noms to it
  • Do you know there is no Whiskey, Vodka or even general Spirits WikiProject or even a Task Force? These are the two most common types of hard liquor manufactured in the West, with almost all distilled liquors with origins in Europe being one of the two. Strange.

More if I can think of it. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 17:22, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I meant the task list:

See? --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 17:32, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Skippy? Mmmmm - peanut butter Jeremy ( Blah blah...)

Hi, i was intending to develop pork up to FAC at some point. I have some material on historical charcuterie stuff which I may be able to add later, do you want to add a potted summary onto the pork page? Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:47, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Updated DYK query On 7 June, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Charcuterie, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

That is only difference from several Romanization of Korean language. So please read this WP:MOS-KO and Korean Romanization. In English Wikipedia, Revised Romanization is used for Romanization for South Korea related naming convention, but your reference is McCune-Reischauer. --Appletrees (talk) 04:10, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here is for you, cold maesil cha (Korean plum beverage).

Hey, I see your achievement today!

What a great expansion in the history of the article. :) As for the Romanization, don't worry, that is at least I can do right now. How is the weather today of your place? (I changed my ID)--Caspian blue (talk) 00:00, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In my residence, today's temperature is over 40 Celsius! (maybe over 100 Fahrenheit). Unfortunately, my air conditioner complied to this crazy wheather which means it was out yesterday due to its hard working these days. No sign of raining too. -_- I could not have a time to get it fixed or go shopping. I will bear this, maybe more than 2~3 days. The heat from my computer is unbearable as well in this circumstance. Anyway, I'm so pleased with the new addition, although Goryeo dynasty needs more expansion because during the period, the most sophisticated culture in Korean history was established from its aristocracy, such as Goryeo porcelain, Buddhist cuisine, tea ceremony and confectionery. But you really did the impressive job today (If I were in the position in charge of expanding contents, it would take forever....) As for my screen name, I'd always considered changing it because 1) I did not like the arbitrarily chosen name (I would not expect that I would edit English Wikipedia much except adding photos or interwiki), 2) I had been mistakenly confused with somebody banned long ago, which has draw unnecessary attentions for me so far (Japanese people mostly from off wiki forum), 3) the weather is too hot, so at least I want to feel refreshed from my talk page and user name. That is all. :) --Caspian blue (talk) 00:39, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, we can. :) I set up my E-mail long ago, and I actually intended to email you during your absence. Besides, I have some issue regarding cuisine articles these days. You're a professional and academic, so I have a lot of question for you. Also I have a great hunch as well. :) --Caspian blue (talk) 00:42, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I meant my Wiki-email. At the left side bar of my talk page, you can email me via (E-mail this user) I've been monitored by so many people, so I could not reveal it on Wikipedia. :) --Caspian blue (talk) 22:01, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That happens to a lot of people due to the poor graphic user interface. However, you have to set up yours first at Wikipedia as well. --Caspian blue (talk) 22:07, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

rescuing Butter...

[edit]

Hi, I noticed your userpage and suddenly thought you may be well-qualified to source and comment on butter, which is a current Featured Article, undergoing a FAR here...there are precious few food articles that are featured and it'd be a shame to lose one. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 02:33, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be honest, I am working on a couple of other big projects, but I will see what I can do tomorrow to source more information. The major issue with the article is the large amount of unsourced info, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I'll get back to you tomorrow, I have some pretty good sources in my library so I'm sure there is something I can do to help. Just to note, try not to be bothered if I remove info. that I can't source because it will help us keep the article at FA, as I will add other info in its place that will be sourced if I can.--Chef Tanner (talk) 03:00, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Terrific - go for it, and you are welcome to remove that which seems dubious or unsourceable, or add any other info you feel is important too. The main contributor appears to have retired so it is up to those of us around who can help out. I think it looks better than some other articles that appear there and should not require much work. I think this stay open for a few weeks. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 03:13, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Korean dishes

[edit]

Hi, Tanner. Can you take a look at this template {{Cuisine of Korea}} that I created last month? It is organized by cooking methods and ingredients. It should be implemented more, and all red links to be blue, but I guess it would be helpful to integrate Korean dishes or cuisine terms. I would appreciate your input on this. Thanks--Caspian blue (talk) 03:50, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, actually my head is spinning right now and I can't even edit more due to the hot weather. Then see you tomorrow. :) --Caspian blue (talk) 04:12, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Commis Chef

[edit]

Thanks for the reply. As I said to the other guy, I'll get round to doing some citations and such when the stuff stops moving about!! Shame to see that the idea of a Commis is dying out in the US as you say - although, having said that, I certainly wouldn't want to go through it twice in a lifetime!! But I agree with you that the whole Chef article is too short really for such a big subject. --Tuzapicabit (talk) 16:52, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A BOOT TO THE HEAD!

The sources are very accurate!

[edit]

Wow, I guess the author of the book you're referring to for Korean cuisine can read Korean and seems to have profound knowledge of Korean culture. As I was checking on soups and stews section (guk and jjigae), the information are exactly same as that I used although mine is written in all Korean and I could not find such info from English sources anywhere.

I have a couple of question for you. The grouping of the soup or stew-like dishes in Korean cuisine differs from Korean cuisine experts or scholars, but jeongol is generally categorized into stew category. Or jeogol and bokkeum (볶음, stir-fried dish) are compared as a pair. What does the book say about jeongol and bokkeum?

Aside from this question, every time I go to the article, it is full of wonder and new information! v^^v --Caspian blue (talk) 12:16, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spring soup

[edit]

Hi Chef Tanner. I just created spring soup. I found the topic at Wikipedia:Articles requested for more than a year. The article needs more info if it is to make it on DYK within the next five days. Please consider adding to the article. Also, if you have any photos, that would be great. Thanks. Bebestbe (talk) 06:10, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment. It seems to be a very old term. If you would post a sentence or two from one of your very old cook books that comments on spring soup, that would be great. And if you happen to whip one up and take a photo (see examples here, that would be swell. Thanks. Bebestbe (talk) 21:00, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:

[edit]

Hmm.. I don't know because I almost access to Korean web sources (reliable though), and the Chicago format on web sources look to me somewhat the reference section unnecessary lengthy. I don't mind the Chicago format being used throughout the article though. --Caspian blue (talk) 01:45, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, in South Korea, Harvard style is a preferred format for thesis. As for DYK, it is my pleasure. I like the DYK's function. That is a first step for me or novice to approach how to write articles with reliable sources and NPOV. However, to be on DYK page, I think I have to clean up all "unreferenced section" tag as providing references. (yes, I can). --Caspian blue (talk) 02:10, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. I meant the alcoholic drink section especially (no source there)--Caspian blue (talk) 02:24, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've been posting a Food and Drink newsletter. I'm wondering if you can drum up interest in working on bringing Casu Marzu (maggot cheese) to featured status for the April Fools 2009 mainpage? See the Dispatch at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2008-03-03/Dispatches and last year's mainpage blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 1, 2008. Also, butter is at FAR and could use some help, in case you can drum up editors interested in pitching in. Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:47, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Colonial cuisine

[edit]

You might want to have a look at cuisine of the Thirteen Colonies when you get back. I finally got around to writing about the regional cuisines, and I think we might try to work towards making it an FA by now. My main concern is that "Regional cuisines" and "Diet before the American Revolution" might seem slightly contradictory. Just let me know when you get back if you have the time and motivation to go for an FAC.

Beer category decision

[edit]

A discussion has been opened on changes that have been made to the existing Beer category system. The changes reverse the decision made by the Project in April 2006. The changes were based on agreement by only two people, and by a discussion that took place outside the Beer Project. There may be some merit in the changes, and to prevent future conflict it is important that there is some discussion of the matter. Japanese cuisine and IP vandals

[edit]

Hi, Chris, When you're back, can you take a look at the history of Japanese cuisine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)? You may already notice that its intro and history sections are not the same as you wrote, in fact that are tainted by IP users. That pattern by IP anons is all the same; removing or reducing Korean mentions as minimum as possible. That practices has been done by a blocked user Azukimonaka (talk · contribs). Since the user banned the late of Feb., the user has been still coming back to remove the content. The article was mostly written by you with academic sources in a neutral point of view, but the user in question has done the same thing over all Japanese or Korean cuisine related articles. The user uses several ISPs, such as OCN, ODN and home.ad.jp. I think the article needs some intention from more editors. I don't want to be dragged into edit warring by the vandal. Thanks.--Caspian blue (talk) 16:08, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese cuisine

[edit]

Do you say Italian who likes pasta than bread have a prejudice against the bread? I seems this expression isn't appropriate as same as in Japanese cuisine. As you are a food task force, I will add some. The short-grain rice cultivation was not only in Japan but also China and Korea, so before the maiji-era all most all Japanse didn't know long-grain rice under seclusion policy, and couldn't eat them until recently under ban on import for conservation policy. So modern Japanse don't know the manner to eat long-grain rice with pleasure, yet. And this was recent event that long-grain rice was imported, in 1993 for bad harvest.Northwest1202 (talk) 20:08, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Chris, you're welcome. I think his/her misunderstanding of the word "prejudice" would stem from his English. I tried hard to explain to him, but well, I think he thinks "prejudice" has the equal meaning of bias. So he determined to remove the word from the article which definitely would degrade Japanese people or cuisine. -_- --Caspian blue (talk) 23:04, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

self reverts do not count towards 3RR. if you think i am wrong, report me.203.165.124.61 (talk) 16:42, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, one more time. I have not broken 3RR. if I continue - ie. if I break the 3RR, then go ahead, block me but as it stands, there have been two articles, which I edited in order to balance the POV, which initially was biased against Japan - content dispute, nothing more, nothing less.

also one minor point, just because I happen to be editing using an IP at the moment, rather than using an account, does not mean that I welcome people reverting edits on my talk page, if I remove an edit, please do not revert my removal. If the edit has been removed, then that is my choice, I consider it to be totally unacceptable for any editor to revert my removal of comments, and on a more official level, I consider it to be in breach of wikipedia guidelines - but that's OK, I will turn the other cheek this time. have a nice day.203.165.124.61 (talk) 23:45, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some changes

[edit]

I have simplified and cleaned up the side panels for the projects and task forces.

  1. I replaced the edit links with the {{ed2}} template.
  2. I moved the project links to its their page using a new template, {{Food projects}}. Edit this one box and all food and drink projects will be updated at once.
  3. I created a new template for WikiMedia links, {{Project wikimedia}}. It is easy to use, just add the template with the |project= switch and it will automatically create links to the subject in all of the the other WikiMedia sites.
  4. I created a new portals template, {{Food portals}}. It creates a box with all three food and drink portals, alphabetically.
  5. I created a new assessment template, {{Project assessments}}. It works like the WikiMedia template.

I also began a side panel and tasks page for the ice cream WikiProject.

Hope you had fun on your sojourn.

There are 4 editors who disagree with you and Badagnani. I think that constitutes a "dispute".Melonbarmonster2 (talk) 03:05, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thirteen Colonies for FA?

[edit]

What do you think about trying to nominate cuisine of the Thirteen Colonies for an FAC? You're the one with the most abundant source material. Other than technicalities like reference format and copyediting, do you think it's good enough? We'd could start by asking for a peer review, of course.

Requested moves

[edit]

Please make yourself heard in these discussions:

Lots of non-policy based "oppose" including one from our favorite contrib.

Georgian cuisine

[edit]

Hi, can you please add your thoughts also to the discussion on the re-naming of Georgian cuisine here? Your contribution will be most welcome. Thank you. --Zlerman (talk) 16:51, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ANI

[edit]

I'm quite happy for Badagnani to cross post my polite request to Jerem43. He is posting to the relevant articles and I believe Jerem43's actions to have been highly inappropriate for some time - this issue needs wider input and discussion. But it should not turn into a witchhunt against Badagnani. Paxse (talk) 20:48, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pommes de terre

[edit]

Wow, I didn't realize the gratin issue was the subject of an edit war. I just came across that radical change and thought it was weird. A similar change was made on the waffle article too. I like clear simple language, but I also think it's important to be inclusive. But if there are appropriate pointers to the relevant independent articles I'd be okay going that route too. Merry Christmas, Chris. Again, Sennen goroshi (talk · contribs) is resuming his usual behavior like removing an editor's comment from Talk:Korean cuisine which is not allowed for him to do such according to Wikipedia:TALK#Others' comments. Also, this user falsely accused me of "canvassing" a RM request by him to WT:KO[2] (the community page is intended for the community notice). I take offense at this user's constant trolling. Your input would be appreciated.--Caspian blue 19:28, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CB, stop complaining - I removed personal remarks from a talk page as per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Talk_page_guidelines#Editing_comments which clearly states "Some examples of appropriately editing others' comments:

If you have their permission....Removing prohibited material such as libel and personal details.....Deleting material not relevant to improving the article "

with all due respect to the editor whos comments I removed, I do not feel they were geared towards improving the article, and were merely personal remarks on the morality and racial issues of dog meat - as such I removed them in line with wikipedia rules.

regarding other issues, please continue this on my talk page, as I dont want to have a petty argument on someone elses talk page.

Mediation

[edit]

Thanks for the mediation request. However, I don't feel comfortable with issues to be mediated is appropriate. The content issues to be resolved have to be pinned down exactly and not make this about me or any other editor who disagrees with you. I'll come up with a list of specific issues we need to resolve that you can look over and revise. We should also think about asking for editor participation or informal mediation before taking this to formal mediation which is a step before arbitration.Melonbarmonster2 (talk) 21:47, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
