Premature changes
[edit]I in no way wish to doubt the good will of your edits, but we have a convention that we keep the historical section of rider and team infoboxes for that which is present or past, not future. It is fine to say in the text of a riders article that he "has signed to ride with Team Morecash-Thansense in 2011", but to put in the infobox that this joining the team is a historical fact is considered to be a breach of WP:CRYSTAL: consider the case of Tom Zirbel. Similarly, team name changes in the infobox should follow the facts, not anticipate them. Kevin McE (talk) 06:14, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
- Although I went through all the premature edits that you made a few days ago, correcting them such that the "history" makes no assumptions that future plans are prematurely included in them, you have returned today to this practice which is in breach of WP:Crystal. Please desist immediately. If you do not agree with the consensus reached at WT:CYC, raise the matter there. Kevin McE (talk) 23:24, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- If you continue to ignore notes left here and the consensus established at WP:CYC, I will have little option but to raise a AIV over your editing activities. Wiki is built on consensus: if you do not agree with it, you are welcome to argue for a change in it, but you can't just ignore it. Kevin McE (talk) 08:47, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi. Please, please, pretty please use the {{ct}} template when changing the rider teams on their articles. It provides for mass changes all at once, and keeps future links from being wrong (i.e. if/when Garmin and/or Cervélo don't sponsor that team anymore, it will obviously have a different name, making links to either "Team Garmin-Cervélo" or "Garmin-Cervélo" incorrect). You can find the list of names for each three-letter identifier by going to Template:Cycling data followed by that three-letter identifier (so the list for the Garmin team is at {{Cycling data GRM}}). If you think the current name is wrong, please please please edit the {{Cycling data GRM}} template and not each rider's individual page for a standard wikilink. A full list of three-letter identifiers can be found at Category:Cycling team data. Please use this template. Thank you. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 07:31, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- Further – in infoboxes, consensus is to use the team name under which the rider first signed (in cases where a rider has changed teams). Martijn Maaskant has not ridden for "Garmin-Cervélo" since 2008, since there was no such entity in 2008. Arbitrary? Perhaps. But despite one ongoing violation of this consensus (which really, really angers me, but c'est la vie) it works well on the other many hundreds to thousands of cyclist bios. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
