sandbox
[edit]No I wouldn't write it in the main sandbox as this is really just for temporary experimenting, and gets regularly blanked - It would be better to set up your own user sandox here User:TGG/sandbox. You can set up as many pages as you want in your own userspace. Let me know how you get on Mammal4 15:38, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Superfluous information
[edit]- Point one - Superfluous becasuse a link already exists within the main infobox.
- Point two - The flag adds absolutely nothing to the article when used in that context.
- Point three - I am not arguing for the retention of any flag, for reasons stated, but note that you err on the side of those who might think the Cornish flag as offensive. Therefore, NPOV demands removal!
- Point four - I have never argued against presenting the 'legal' position only the superfluous nature of the flag and an unnecessary infobox - or, if you choose, infoboxes.
- Point five - The Establishment sanitisation process already exists in the over-stating of the 'English' status. Your global mis-use of "Englishness" is also noted.
- Answer one – Not superfluous because a single link to one article and an entire infobox with links to similar entities are not comparable.
- Answer two – The flag adds two very important things; standardization and ease of identification as an England-related template.
- Answer three – NPOV does not mean removal of something that some people do not like (not Cornishmen nor Englishmen). NPOV means presenting the facts as they are laid out in the real world without bias. One can say, completely without bias, that Cornwall is, with 100% certainly, a part of England. One can also say, completely without bias, that Cornwall has some cultural differences from the rest of England that some people feel makes it a separate nation (but not a separate constituent country or home nation, since those are terms of art) from England. One cannot, however, ever be espousing a neutral point of view if one states that "Cornwall is Not England!", no matter how carefully that is phrased.
- Answer four – None necessary.
- Answer five – You perhaps believe that the Englishness of Cornwall is being overstated, but as it is the dominant view in the law of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the only legal and political source that matters here, as I don't think international law touches on such an internal issue) that Cornwall is a ceremonial county of England, that view must be presented first and foremost. To not present that view as the standard would be to be giving extra weight to a viewpoint which is contrary to law and may even be contrary to popular opinion (we have no concrete numbers at this point), and is certainly contrary to the political reality. As for my "global mis-use of 'Englishness'", I'm afraid I do not follow.
- Many thanks for the reply. I did a full response but seem to have lost it when I flipped to another page for info/reference and cannot be bothered to rewrite it all again. I shall instead update the page on Raphael Lemkin and include a page about wikipedia on the TGG site. -- TGG 14:51, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
