Spikning
[edit]Hi Synethos, and thank you for your contribution on Spikning. I am wondering if the content would be better included in the existing article on Thesis, as the subject does not appear to be notable enough for a stand-alone article. -- NoCOBOL (talk) 10:14, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
Ambigram
[edit]Hi,
You're interested in ambigrams, very good. Now you should learn a bit more about Wikipedia in general before creating mess on articles. Your contributions are not encyclopedic and do not respect our guidelines. See WP:EXT and WP:COPO for a start. Thanks for your attention -- Basile Morin (talk) 15:38, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
@Basile Morin: How is it irrelevant to have links to these generators in a section about them? Honestly, I think it is a bit strange not to do that. Also I did make some edits to the text also, which are now deleted. Could you take a look at the whole segment please? Synethos (talk) 15:54, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
- Read WP:EXT and you may understand. Regards -- Basile Morin (talk) 15:57, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
@Basile Morin: I'm moving this to the talk page ok?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Synethos (talk • contribs)
Question: Thanks for your link to the book by Gustave Verbeek. But why are there big blanks on the pages? If you need help on Commons to upload / describe / categorize these files, I can help. Regards -- Basile Morin (talk) 13:33, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Basile Morin: These are from 'The Upside-Down World of Gustave Verbeek' 2009. The strips are digitally restored and recolored and re-copyrighted. There is a selection of them on the Ohio library of which the copyright expired, but these are not part of the public collection. This was my attempt to share without breaking copyright. The guy who made the 2009 book is open to sharing some of his comics for educational purposes, so its requestable if you want to add them. Synethos (talk) 15:01, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. I'm going to ask experts if it's possible to re-copyright an old book like that, just with new colors, and restoration. Honestly I don't think so. There are very experimented people on Wikimedia Commons, who may answer. I'll let you know. -- Basile Morin (talk) 15:34, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- ⏳️ In progress. See c:Commons:Village pump/Copyright#Public domain work restored: is it ok for new copyright? -- Basile Morin (talk) 01:47, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi Synethos, with a bit of patience, I found the three pages with ambigrams by Gustave Verbeek, on your website. Thanks for the link. A few questions: Do you think there are more than these three pages, with ambigrams? Since the resolution is not huge on this website, it would be nice to get better quality ones, like those you uploaded on Imgur (but full page, not blanked, and flat sheet). Do you think it's possible? In any case I'm very motivated to upload these illustrations on Commons. This shows great combinations like home / away have been existed for more than a century, that's incredible. -- Basile Morin (talk) 10:16, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Hey, I am currently under self isolation with no access to a proper scanner that a has >a4 surface. So eventually I can once I go back to work, but I'd prefer to do it with permission of the author. Also on a side note. The publisher of the swedish remake gave me permission to host an image from the book site on wiki. Do you know how I should handle that?
"Yes, you may upload an image from this page http://www.epix.se/produkt/2967 to wikipedia. Please don’t forget to give proper credit to the artist Marcus Ivarsson, to the publisher Epix and to publishing date 2012."
It would be nice to do this one, as this comic is on wiki in it's original form. http://epix.se/sites/default/files/sites/default/files/smakprov/Upp%C3%A5ner%2042b_1.jpg Synethos (talk) 12:13, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
⌛️ Hi, I agree with JasonAQuest saying claiming a copyright can be erroneous in that case. I'm going to upload the original comics in low resolution, but will check carefully before touching those from the last edition. Concerning Marcus Ivarsson, it seems a completely new style of drawings, based on the old idea. And for sure he holds the copyrights. But these frames you show me seem free of ambigrams, then I'm not interested in working on them. If you want to do that, you need to bring the proof you've got the permission from the author. See c:Commons:OTRS. -- Basile Morin (talk) 05:40, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- ok. That section will be very image heavy after this I think. maybe put them all in a horizontal gallery like one below? I would still email the guy just to let him know if anything. And I emailed the OTRS people. --Synethos (talk) 15:08, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Good. Done : c:Category:Ambigrams by Gustave Verbeek. -- Basile Morin (talk) 02:53, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- It looks messy now I think. Maybe put all images (except the greek one?) in a row below the history section?)Synethos (talk) 04:57, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- A bit cluttered I admit, but this presentation follows relatively well the chronology in my opinion. -- Basile Morin (talk) 06:59, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Sah
[edit]The word "sah" doesn't appear in any dictionary in English. You might be right it's not "saw" ("seen" would have been better), but if "sah" had been existing for more than a century, I think we would have mentions of this term in the literature today. How do you explain? We can't invent here, per Wikipedia:No original research. -- Basile Morin (talk) 06:59, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what the proper term is for this, but it's the way they wrote text for servants/lower class 'non-white' people to show that they had a bad grasp of the language and potentially a lower intelligence. I don't think that it's a racist term perse, but for me it does immediately bring up images of a cotton farm in the deep south back in the 1800's.
- Anyway, some book examples and two less authoritative dictionary-like sites:

- It could still be 'saw', but grammatically 'sir' makes more sense I would say. --Synethos (talk) 09:12, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, one reference added -- Basile Morin (talk) 10:12, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
Possible advertising
[edit]Synethos, I understand you are connected with an Ambigram website. As such, there is a constant background risk, however well-intentioned and scholarly your edits, of subliminally introducing an element of advertising or promotion into the article. You are I expect aware of the Wikipedia policy on advertising, which basically says it's strictly forbidden. Please take extreme care when editing any topic related to your website, especially Ambigram, to preserve absolute neutrality. It is customary for commercial interests to propose changes on article talk pages rather than editing on their own, and you might well find that approach attractive. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 06:53, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, yes sure I understand what you are saying, and I have made a topic in the talk page yesterday to do this. But I honestly believe that these references make sense to include. If you really want, you can mention them as text e.g. 'flipscript has a complex generator that uses....the ambimatic had bla bla.' but it makes no sense to exclude the whole thing because I am connected to one of them. As you could see on that talk page, most of the edit disputes that I had were not even connected to that section, so I am trying to improve the article. Could you take a look? --Synethos (talk) 07:06, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Chiswick Chap: Just leaving a mention in case you didn't get a ping. --Synethos (talk) 09:03, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
