Information icon Hello, I'm Broc. I noticed that you recently removed content from Michelle Shocked without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Hello Broc, thank you for reaching out. I removed the content from Michelle Shocked's page because I spoke directly with her, and she has refuted the accuracy of the information regarding her views on homosexuality. As per Wikipedia's guidelines, it's essential to ensure that information is accurate and reflects the subject's beliefs accurately. Since the information presented did not align with Michelle Shocked's actual views, I felt it necessary to remove it to maintain the integrity of her Wikipedia page. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to discuss them. Thank you for your understanding. Syedmajid011 (talk) 17:25, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you have an existing relationship with her, that is a conflict of interest. Additionally, we have no way of verifying your claims. We need reliable, published sources. My Pants Metal (talk) 17:36, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Syedmajid011. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Michelle Shocked, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. My Pants Metal (talk) 17:36, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you for reaching out. I understand your concern regarding conflicts of interest. However, I would like to clarify that I do not have a personal relationship with Michelle Shocked. She hired me to edit her Wikipedia page after coming across it and expressing that certain information was inaccurate. I have no vested interest in promoting any specific viewpoint, and my edits are solely aimed at ensuring accuracy and neutrality on the page. Syedmajid011 (talk) 17:44, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, this is Joyous!. I'm so sorry, but "speaking with her" is simply not considered a reliable source of information. Is there a reliable published source that contains the information you're wanting to add? And, just so we're clear, if she's paying you, that IS a relationship that needs to be disclosed. Joyous! Noise! 17:59, 27 February 2024 (UTC) [adding] You should probably also read up on our "three-revert" policy, because you are getting close to violating it. As advice, when multiple experienced editors are telling you that your edit is not appropriate, you should at least consider that there might be a problem with it. Joyous!
