Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I've noticed that you've been adding your signature to some of your article contributions, such as you did to Balinese Painting. This is a simple mistake to make and is easy to correct. For future reference, the need to associate edits with users is taken care of by an article's edit history. Therefore, you should use your signature only when contributing to talk pages, the Village Pump, or other such discussion pages. For a better understanding of what distinguishes articles from these type of pages, please see What is an article?. Again, thanks for contributing, and enjoy your Wikipedia experience! Thank you. Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Pugur001.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Polly (Parrot) 20:29, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Balinese art article has now gone too far - it has too many red links and too many uncited items.

Please read very carefully - WP:N, WP:V, WP:RS and WP:CITE to see the article needs cleaning up SatuSuro 12:52, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Categories and project tags can help to prevent your attempts at an article from being deleted - also WP:RS are very important for new articles - please note SatuSuro 00:06, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Balinese art

[edit]

The big problem with the article is the over-use of lists of names and the use of [[ ]] - there is no use to the article to overuse the link brackets when there is a very unlikely chance of an article being created in the short term SatuSuro 06:47, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:IBM Portrait.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

License tagging for Image:IBM_Family_Tree.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:IBM_Family_Tree.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 00:03, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:MPLNyana.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. an end to the image hassles?

[edit]

Hi. It seems you're having issues with the proper licensing of images (i.e. the messages above). I also noticed this statement and believe this can all be sorted out. I live in Ubud and have been to Museum Puri Lukisan and I'm also acquainted with User:J Milburn (I just left him a note, too). To get all these images properly sorted you need to establish that you are in fact authorized to upload MPL images; i.e. are the international liaison of the Museum Puri Lukisan and that they are ok with these images being released. This involves connecting you, MPL, and the Wikimedia Foundation up via a process known as WP:OTRS; basically everyone hooks-up via email and you'll end-up pasting a 'ticket' onto the uploaded image pages. I'm also going to recommend that you have a chat with User:Lar, who is a nice guy, an OTRS volunteer, and WMF steward. I'll leave him a note pointing here.

Also, the proper place to be uploading these is WP:Commons. Do the OTRS thing first, though. And you should create a global account; WP:SUL. Go into your preferences tab and follow the link at 'Global account status' — it should be straightforward.

Cheers, Jack Merridew 09:24, 25 December 2008 (UTC) (my real name is David)[reply]

Hi, I'd be happy to help if I can. As Jack said, the best way to get all this sorted is to determine what permissions could be granted, and who could grant them, and then work to get that person to send the correct note to our permissions tracking system. Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission is a good place to start. For templates to use to grant permission, Commons:Email templates and Wikipedia:Example requests for permission are helpful. If the museum wants attribution (backlinks) then you should use a CC-By-SA license (Creative Commons, attribution required, share alike (Can't change the license terms if reused) for best results. You can specify exactly how you want credit given, including specifying the phrasing and or the link(s) that must be included on reuse). Hope that helps. ++Lar: t/c 17:18, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi David and Lar, Thank you very much for your notes and guidance. I will do the OTRS first as you suggested. I will contact the Museum Puri Lukisan and ask the Director of the Museum, Tjokorda Bagus Astika to send an email (with the help of the Museum Secretary, Ida Ayu Widyastuti) with the necessary statements to permissions at commonswikimedia.org (am I correct?). You mentioned that I need to paste a 'ticket' onto the uploaded image pages; I am not how to do that...but I will learn how to do it once the OTRS is done. Swidagdo (talk)
Terima kasih. That's the right track. Lar's the expert on this, so see the links he gave you and drop him a note on his talk page. Basically the museum has to designate you as authorized to upload their images and release them under license as Lar suggested. It's morning for him and he's online quite a bit. It is Boxing Day, so he may be a day getting back to you. Don't worry about the image warnings and images that have been deleted. Once all the permissions are sorted, any that have be deleted can be undeleted. The 'ticket is just a template with a number in it (I think); again, Lar... Once things are moving in the right direction, I'll help you move things to Commons. It is likely that the images should be given better names — long names — as they go.
You should do the WP:SUL account unification immediately; this will create an account on Commons for you automatically the first time you visit it after unifying the account. Also, images on Commons can be used elsewhere, such as the Indonesian Wikipedia, which I'm active on; SUL will work for you editing there, too. I'd also suggest that you create a user page, just some basic statement about yourself, your interests, &c. If you would like a fancy page, I can help you with that, too. Cheers, Jack Merridew 12:33, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi David, I just did the account unification. Wow, it's so simple -- I guess they have a macro for it! I will create a user page. Swidagdo (talk) 01:11, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
See this link sulutil:Swidagdo for a list of WMF projects that your account is active on. To create accounts on other wikis, all you need do is follow some link to it; w:jv:Kaca Utama, or w:jv:Panganggo:Jack Merridew, for example ;) Creating the whole SUL system was several years of planning and coding. You were lucky that no one had registered your username on another project; that gets messy. If you would like me to coordinate things somehow by visiting MPL, just let me know. Here's another suggestion; open your 'Preferences', switch to the 'Gadgets' tab and enable 'refTools'. It's a very handy tool for citing sources. Cheers, Jack Merridew 05:09, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi David, Thanks. I will let you know if I need you to help me out by visiting MPL in person. The key staff is on vacation, so I have to wait a bit longer to talk to them directly. Swidagdo (talk) 11:22, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It would be easy, I passed by MPL on Jl Raya toady on the way to Bintang ;) Cheers, Jack Merridew 12:32, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lar and David (jack), the Museum Puri Lukisan Staff reminded me that they have given me a letter in 2006 that I use to show that I am indeed their worldwide representative and can act on their behalf. Here is the link to the letter: MPL Letter. Could you please comment before I send an email to permissions at commonswikimedia.org. Thanks.Swidagdo (talk) 16:58, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I just noticed this; I will ping Lar and get his view. In the future, drop me a note on my talk page if I don't notice something. Cheers, Jack Merridew 15:48, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That is a very broad letter. I think a note to OTRS is the final step here. If you possibly can get one of the signatories of that letter to send a note to permissions@wikimedia.org saying "As per the letter (link) giving Soemantri Widagdo wide powers to act on behalf of the museum, Professor Widagdo has authority to grant specific copyrights/permissions for works that the museum holds copyright to, including granting rights to the Wikimedia Foundation, under CC-BY-SA-3.0"... that would nail it, I think. Failing that, a note from YOU referencing the letter asserting that you have the rights to do this might be OK, but it's not nearly as ironclad. Hope that helps. Thanks again and sorry this is taking a while. ++Lar: t/c 17:04, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, do as Lar says; I'd suggest that they also specifically refer to your 'User:Swidagdo' account so that there's no ambiguity; where Lar said '(link)' be sure and give the full address. It is important that the message from the museum be clearly from MPL; i.e. info@mpl-ubud.com would be best. Once this is worked-out, I'll help you through the details of getting things tagged correctly and on Commons. Cheers, Jack Merridew 07:23, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Lar and Jack - Thank you! The letter is being prepared as per your suggestions. Hope this will resolve the issue. Swidagdo (talk) 11:11, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I'm at MPL; check your email soon and all will be clear. We'll get this sorted soon. Sorry it's taken so long. Cheers, Jack Merridew 07:27, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. File permission problem with File:Geribig.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Geribig.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
