Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Svolkow. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Brian Keating, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Chris Troutman (talk) 16:42, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Chris troutman. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Hypatia have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Chris Troutman (talk) 16:43, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop removing maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Brian Keating, without resolving the problem that the template refers to. This may be considered disruptive editing. Further edits of this type may result in your account being blocked from editing. Chris Troutman (talk) 18:05, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Chris troutman. Can you please suggest the best way to resolve the Brain Keating Page COI and warning icon. The information on the page is accurate and verifiable. I know Dr. Keating from my affiliations with the UC system and the Arthur C. Clark Center for Human Imagination where he is an Associate Director.
Can you also suggest how to revise the Hypatia Additional Reading book suggestion so that it is acceptable? I'm new at this.
Thanks!

I provided information above about conflict of interest here and I also replied to you on my talk page. I really need you to read that material because that info answers your questions. All of Wikipedia's rules are written down. Let me know if you have questions after having read that material. Chris Troutman (talk) 12:07, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
