More sources

[edit]

Hello, I shared some sources with you at User talk:Suz956/El Dorado County Fair. To make your article go live, the general criteria by which it will be checked is whether the topic is covered by at least 2-3 articles which feature the fair as the subject of the article and whether most of the content is backed by citations. To that end, I found a few sources to contribute to this. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:21, 26 January 2015 (UTC) --- I tried to upload the ogg version of the video but it erred each time (at the upload wizard) saying "This type of file is banned". I tried to upload the others and it said that they weren't the right type of file. I went to another page (the old form) that asks for a lot of info but it won't let me upload it because it said "You must give the original source of the file, the author of the work, and a license." I had said "This movie is part of the collection: Prelinger Archives Producer: Universal-International Newsreel Audio/Visual: sound, color Creative Commons license: Public Domain Mark 1.0" I continue to get an error.[1][2][reply]

Suz956 (talk) 00:52, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

About the file - ogg or ogv (both types of ogg files) are standard on Wikipedia. I just downloaded the video and it is an ogv, but that should not give a banned message. I could upload this for you. You seem like you gave it a good try, and I am not sure of the problem.
The source should be the URL of that archive.org page. The author is Universal-International Newsreel Audio/Visual, which may also be the producer. You could also say, "staff of Universal-International Newsreel Audio/Visual", as when a newspaper says "staff writer". The license is as you said - Creative Commons license: Public Domain Mark 1.0. Files only get uploaded once so if I do this file, that just leaves it for you to try next time, but at least it would be up and you can practice inserting it into your article. Should I do that? Blue Rasberry (talk) 01:13, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I was only able to upload it using the old version. (Maybe because I am on a mac? It obviously wasn't a banned video...) Now I am on a page with the info but no text to copy into my page. I have looked for a link for this but I seem to be overlooking it.[1]

1)It says at the bottom of where I asked my article to be reviewed "Warning: This page should probably be located at Draft:El Dorado County Fair (move)." Should I move it? 2)Do I ask you questions here or on the draft talk page? 3)An article says that I should add "AFC submission|||ts=20150127191623|u=Suz956|ns=3" to the top of my article to get it reviewed. I already clicked review so is this necessary?Suz956 (talk) 19:16, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: El Dorado County Fair (February 2)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. Suz956, good job messaging Lixxx235 on their user talk page. I am bringing the discussion back here so that it will be on your own page for future reference, and because the "decline" notice is here.

Lixxx, before the development of this article went very far I checked for third-party media coverage. These sources are used, and I feel they establish notability:

I recognize that some of the sources are self-published and thus do not meet Wikipedia's criteria for reliable sources, and should not be cited indiscriminately. Also, I checked sources myself, and I am sure that this fair has not been covered in a scholarly way or even reviewed as a whole event. The sources which exist review aspects of the fair, like the wheelbarrow races or the cooking contests. In my opinion, a case for passing general notability guidelines is made by citing multiple news sources, even if some of the sources are not published by news agencies.

Can you help out by please giving some constructive advice for making this article ready to go live, assuming good faith that the sources covering aspects of the fair are reliable for what they are? Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 20:02, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I also found that Huell Howser made a video documentary about the fair. It seems to not be online but I gather it is a TV episode only covering this fair. Blue Rasberry (talk) 20:11, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Bluerasberry: Hi! I didn't notice Suz956 was enrolled in a course; I'll keep a closer watch on that in the future. We deliberated this article for a bit on #wikipedia-en-helpers; several of us were reluctant to take action because its notability is unclear- it could be one way or another, and it has about a 50/50 at AfD in my personal opinion. I didn't feel that further discussion among reviewers would have been a decent use of time (considering the current AfC backlog), so I decided to be bold and decline the article.
That being said, no decline or informal off-wiki consensus prevents you from manually moving the draft to article-space in your own personal capacity as an editor, provided you are willing to take responsibility for its content. I've been slightly busy recently, so I won't be reviewing the article again, but if you'd still like to contact me, please feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Cheers, --L235 (talk) As a courtesy, please ping me when replying. 03:49, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
