What I am planning to do on gelatin article is to extend sections of production and uses along with making some information given in the article up to date. Also, I am planning to rearrange headings by adding new headings and/or changing some of them to make the article well organized.

I would most like to review articles on "Protein Precipitation", "Solid Phase Extraction", "Evaporation", and "Crystallization".

Here is my article Gelatin. I expanded some parts of the article along with its production part. GBoran 04:00, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello- I just made my account! My comments about downstream processing are already written on the discussion page for the site. I would be interested in reviewing any of the following projects: Virus inactivation in Cell-Based Products, Blood Processing, Protein precipitation, Tablet and Dose Preparation and Packaging , Freeze Drying or Sterilization of pharmaceuticals, or Crystallization.

Steve's Test Post

[edit]

I set up my account and added an example of natural crystallization processes on the Crystallization article. For the review topics... I'd be interested in both types of blood fractionation, pulsed field separation of large DNA fragments, depyrogenation, removal and deactivation of viruses... and I don't know what a Podbielnak extractor is, but it sounds fun.

Hi everyone! I would like to edit articles on blood fractionation, evaporation, crystallization, removal and deactivation of viruses in blood and tissue culture products, freeze drying, and depyrogenation. I edited the bare article on Protein Structure Prediction Software. I discussed how the software Jpred compares a query protein sequence to homologous proteins. -Babu

Your project looks very interesting, I'd love to hear what you and your students thought about it afterwards (are you goint to repeat it?). In terms of review, there are several ways to do it other then asking a particular editor for input (and I don't know any chemists, unfortunatly). There is a WP:PR, but as you can see replies are not that common. Then there is a Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemistry, it may have its own review and asking for input from its members on its talk page may be a good idea. WP:GA is guaranteed to offer a review by a single editor, but there is no guarantee it will be sb with knowledge of chemistry - bottom line is that we have few real experts from academia like yourself, and even fewer who are active in reviewing (which is no different from reviewing in academic journals, isn't it? :). Beyond that, WP:FAC is the most active but article needs to pass certain requirements before it should be listed there. I hope that helps!-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  19:20, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Folding@Home

[edit]

Thanks for your note. I admit I'm a bit confused about Records' behavior; his other contributions (in particular a series of extremely confused reference desk questions) indicate a serious lack of knowledge about the subject he's so enthusiastically promoting. I agree that the F@H forum members' SCOTM votes are not really 'spam'; they responded in good faith to a request they had no obvious reason to think was out of line, though I'm not convinced the votes should stand as 'legitimate' SCOTM votes (but that's up to the maintainer of the project). I'm not familiar with the demographics of the F@H forum users, but if they tend to be experts or at least well-informed about the technique and methodology, they probably don't need SCOTM anyway, and would of course be welcome to improve the article. If they tend to be closer to end-user enthusiasts I'd be a little less encouraging, as (IMO) the article is already rather cheerleadery and what it lacks in technical detail is not something that non-expert end-users can reasonably provide.

FWIW I don't think there's a need to wait till the Aβ results come out if there is interest in working on the article now - it can always be updated again later, and what the article needs most is methodological detail, not the specifics of recent results. But if anyone's interested, our article on amyloid beta is rather bad; it's been on my back burner for months now and badly needs expansion... hint, hint ;) Opabinia regalis 23:14, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Has nothing to do with your motivation. While you're on the subject of talk pages, this would have been a more appropriate way of notifying people that you have addressed concerns about the FAC nomination. Samsara (talk  contribs) 03:16, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SCOTM

[edit]

Well, you may be aware that the whole SCOTM nomination of Folding@Home turned sour with Records turning out to be a sockpuppet of a known disruptive sockpuppeteer. Meanwhile, we archived the nomination because things were getting out of hand. I understand though that you have a genuine interest in improving this article, and I'm sure that after we let a little bit of grass grow over this, the article could be nominated again, should you wish to do so. Page move debate opinion needed

[edit]

Hi, user DIV (a chemical engineer), i.e. User talk:128.250.204.118, and myself (a chemical engineer) have been debating over the name of the Gibbs free energy article for seven months now. DIV is demanding that both the Gibbs free energy and Helmholtz free energy articles be moved to “Gibbs energy” and “Helmholtz energy” per IUPAC definitions, and is continuously rewriting all the related articles in Wikipedia on this view. According to my opinion, as well as others, e.g. 2002 encyclopedia Britannica, 2006 encyclopedia Encarta, 2004 Oxford Dictionary of Chemistry, 2005 Barnes & Noble’s The Essential Dictionary of Science, the 2004 McGraw-Hill Concise Encyclopedia of Chemistry, Eric Weissteins World of Physics: Gibbs Free Energy, etc., Gibbs free energy and Helmholtz free energy are the most common usages. If you have an opinion on this issue could you please comment here. Thanks: --Sadi Carnot 20:20, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcoming your latest project

[edit]

Hi there Susato

Happy to see more chemists or related contributors! I notice you've been running this project for a while, I'm sure you know how it works. Schools and universities project might still be worth a visit.

I've just edited the 1,3-propanediol page, cutting out most of what your student has written for undue weight. It comes with the territory, but I'm not sure if your students have been warned that their contributions are likely to be mangled beyond recognition to fit the house style. Perhaps a note might be helpful to avoid disappointment. --Rifleman 82 (talk) 10:27, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
