Request for help
[edit]copied from post to my talk page
- Hello, Dbiel, I started editing some of Indian channel programs (TV Asia), but i have getting message everytime saying this is not catogorized, or referenced, or something else. the picture is right. I don't understand any of that! so would you please tell me how to reference and catorized a page!!! Also, i have used logos for the programmes, which should be fine cuz it's helping expand their show info. but i get message, the dispute picutre bla bla bla..... what does that mean my user talk is Survir. please help me
I am glad that you are asking for help. Every program, system and environment has its own set of rules and procedures and Wikpedia is no different. There are a lot of people who are willing to help, all you have to do is ask. You have been running into a brick wall because it appeared by your deletions that you were not interested in learning.
Just to start off on the right foot, a note about using talk pages. New entries should be made at the bottom of the page (not the top) Start the entry off with a title (there are several examples on this page. Finish your entry by adding ~~~~ this will automaticly time stamp your entry and provide links to your user page and user talk page.
Now to some of your questions. The most important relates to the not filling in the required copyright notices with the images you are uploading. There should be no problem using the images in the fashion you have been doing, but the fair use notice must be completed each time the image is use. Any time you run into trouble and need help simply use the helpme template {{helpme}} followed by your question or problem and someone will attempt to help.
Lets start with article Deewar (TV serial) and start cleaning up the problems, then you can follow the examples used there and apply them to the other articles your are working on. You seem to like working with Asian TV program. The following categories can be added to the bottom of the page of each of these new articles: [[Category: Asian television stubs]] - this indicates that this is just the start of an article dealing with an Asian television program or topic. Clicking one the following Category:Television will provide you big list to choose from. It looks link Category:Indian television series might be the best fit for Deewar. The colon in front of Category is not used when adding a category link. It is used only when you want to add a link to the category as I have done on this talk page. If there are other categories that are appropriate you can add them, but these two are all you actually need.
Now for the more important item, the use of the photo. Image:Deewar_-_A_Wall.jpg your usage definately falls in the area of fair use, but requires that the fair use statement be completed. Click on the image link and we can work on completing it. The following page will hep help answer questions about fill out the fair use template Wikipedia:Fair_use_rationale_guideline I have attempted to add a fair use statement and have used the helpme template to see if it is acceptable as I now sure exactly everything that is needed myself. What we need from you is the actual source of the logo.
The final problem with Deewar was the method that the name of the article was change. You should never blank an article. If the name needs to be changed use the move command and inclued a reason for doing so in the edit summary box. Do you have a reason for wanting the article name changed to "Deewar - A Wall"? The current name Deewar (TV serial) is the standard format for identification of article names but that does not mean that it can not be changed to something else.
Try to remember to use the edit summary every time you edit an article. It is a big help to other edits who are scanning the recently changed files. It also benefits you as your edits are much less likely to be reverted if a clear edit summary is used.
I hope that this has helped a bit.
What is needed now from you is the actual source of each of the images you have downloaded to Wikipedia. If you need help, do what I did and use the helpme template. Thanks for taking the time to ask for help. I hope you enjoy your visits to Wikipedia and I look forward to seeing more of your edits. Dbiel (Talk) 03:03, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Updated fair use statement
[edit]I noticed that you replaced the fair use statement I had start with the template type which is OK except that you failed to fill in some of the fields. I have worked on completing it but ran into a problem with the source URL. It is invalid. Could you double check the source and correct it. Thank you. Dbiel (Talk) 23:30, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing the source data. I have updated it to include the actual source which includes the image file name itself. I have also updated a few of the other fields and have requested a review of the information to be sure that it now meets or exceeds all of Wikipedia's requirements. Thank you for your help in fixing this problem.
- PS your replacing my fair use statement with the template helped me learn how to insert a new template, thank you for that as well. Dbiel (Talk) 06:50, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Edit summary and User talk pages
[edit]Please try and give a reason for changing an article in the edit summary box. Also, please do not delete any of the text from this talk page. It is against the Wikipedia guidelines. - Raj712 05:00, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Deleted Article
[edit]You have asked for some help regarding an article you were working on that has been deleted. I am having a difficult time finding any reference to it. The name of the article would be very helpful. A few things that I have noticed. You have been a busy new editor with you first post less that 30 days ago and already over 300 edits. Thank you for your participation. If you will make the following changes it the way you use Wikipedia you will find it a bit easier to get help.
First when posting to a talk page, be sure to sign the post use "~~~~" at the end of your post. That will automaticly provide a link to your user page as well as date stamp the post.
Second, when editing pages try to make a habit of adding an edit summary (a brief statement of what you added or changed and why) It makes it a lot easier for other to understand what you are attempting to do and generally will slow down the revert process as most will discuss the subject first if there is some indication of what is happening.
I will be happy to try to help regarding the deleted article, but without knowing its name I am at a dead end. If you can post the name of the article, I will see what I can do. Dbiel (Talk) 19:17, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (Image:Doli smalcat img.jpg)
[edit]This tag no longer applies
[edit]The image has been deleted making this tag invalid Dbiel (Talk) 04:09, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading Image:Doli smalcat img.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 22:03, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

your suggestion
[edit]Hi Survir. Please remember to sign your name by adding four tildes (~~~~), not just by placing a link to your username. Anyway, I think you have a valid point about the Zee TV template. It's actually a suggestion a very experienced Wikipedian would suggest - Nice job =D. If you want, we can discuss this further on the Zee TV Programmes' Template here. Also, since you do seem keen to help contribute to Indian television articles. I personally invite you to join the WikiProject Indian television (which I created earlier today) by adding your username to the Participants section. Adding shows to Indian TV channel articles
[edit]I am saying this in context of your recent edits on Sahara One but it applies to all Indian TV channels. Since these articles are for the Indian channels, we should stick to the shows on the Indian feed. A lot of old shows might be aired on other feeds and we should not add those to "current shows". I know this might be difficult for you since I figure you watch the US feed but still. Also, all channels rerun old shows and maintaining and updating a "reruns" section is both unnecessary and too much work. Raj712 03:34, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Page naming
[edit]The use of adding a period to the end of a name to avoid using a longer name is a very poor practice. Example Deewar (TV series) changed to Deewar. Remember you can use piped links to shorten the name of the link in articles and templates [[Deewar (TV series) | Deewar]] will display as Deewar and will link to the actual article Deewar (TV series)
I also edited the two redirect pages Deewar and Deewaar so that both contain links to Deewar (TV series) as well as to the Deewaar movies Dbiel (Talk) 03:50, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Note: Deewar. has been deleted (20:55, July 20, 2007 Philippe (Talk | contribs) deleted "Deewar." (Housekeeping: non-standard name.) Dbiel (Talk) 14:17, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Acknowledgement of refusal of offer to help
[edit]First: please note that the deletion of posts to your talk page is not recommended and is considered poor practice.
Second: I have tried to help you on several occasions. I have spent a considerable amount of time helping you to get the copyright notices and fair use statements for your uploaded images into a proper format to prevent the deletion of the images. Your action of deleting my posts here detailing the current status of the images and what sill needs to be done to bring them in to full compliance leeds me to only one conclusion - you are not interested in my help and are unconcerned if your uploaded images are deleted for copyright violation. As such I will stop doing so and simply flag the images for deletion due to copyright violation. Dbiel (Talk) 00:52, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Apology Accepted
[edit]I was suprised and happy that you did respond to my last post. I was not looking forward to making sure that most of your uploaded images were deleted due to copyright violations. Hopefully we can work together to resolve the remaining issues. The source of the image must be clearly identified, and only you know exactly where the images came from. I need your help to correct many of the incorrect source data. The only other choice is for me to try to find the same or simplier image and replace the current one with one that can be identifed as to it's source. Most of the other fields I am able to correct on my own and will continue to do so. I have restored the list of images and will continue to add to it. When you have corrected any of the noted problems, simple add a note to that entry and sign the note using four tildes (~~~~)
As a side note. If you desire to keep your talk page shorter, it is permitted to archive older posts, but do not archive posts that relate to issues that have not yet been resolved. As noted before, the deletion of an entry simply because you have read it is not recommended. restored posts follow Dbiel (Talk) 02:57, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Bad upload habits
[edit]I have helped you in the past clean up image upload issues (see Image:Deewar - A Wall.jpg) You have upload a significant number of images and continue to fail to comply with the rules regarding uploads and continue to ignore and/or delete the warnings placed on this page. This not not a good practice. If it is a matter of not understand (possibly a language issue) please ask for help. Help is gladly given to any user asking for it. But users who persist in ignoring the rules will find that the rules will be quickly enforced and the images will be deleted with little explaination.
Example: Image:Bnews120x90.gif You state that it is a copyrighted image but fail to include the permission to use it which could be a fair use statement or a specific statement from the copyright holder permitting the use and the specific conditions related to its use. This image is currently not being used. Copyrighted images should never be uploaded without an indication of how they are going to be used. If the image is copied from a web site, the source of the image is the exact and entire ulr of the image, not just the base address. The next time you simply delete a warning posted on this page (something that is not recommended in the first place) without addressing the reason it was posted, ie completing a missing fair use statement, the image will be tagged for speedy deletion.
List of uploaded images and current status
[edit]I will be going through your list of uploaded images and listing each one here with an statement as to exactly what is wrong with each. These issues must be addressed or the images will be deleted. I will attempt to fix what I can, but my crystal ball is limited in its ability to identify sources.
Image:Tv asia.gif
[edit]- source is invalid
- fair use statement identifies incorrect usage
- original
- This is the original logo of the tv serial Deewar used to identify the subject of the article
- It is actually being used in article TV Asia
- original
- I will fix the usage issue but you need to fix the source info.
I will continue to expand this list as I have time. Any item not dealt with will be tagged for deletion. My goal is not to delete your images, it is simply to help you comply with Wikipedia guidelines and rules.Dbiel (Talk) 14:14, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
- I am confused by your last two edits to this image file.
- The first edit changed the source to: http://www.optimum.com/images/io/international/indian/tv_asia.gif which appears to be the correct source of the image.
- But then you changed the source to: http://www.tvasiausa.com which does not seem to be the source of the image.
- I will change the listing back to your first edit as this appears to be the correct entry and will make this image file complete. Dbiel (Talk) 10:39, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

A small question
[edit]Hey,
All's well that ends well :)
I just have one question. I noticed that you reverted my changes on List of programs broadcast by Zee TV. What I had added was a navigation box which is for all such list pages and of which this page is also a part and so the box rightfully belongs on the page. The other tag that i added was that of an incomplete TV list which the article is because it still doesn't list all the shows. So could please tell me why you reverted these changes? I will add both these tags again. Please let me know if there is some confusion.
Also, in case you revert edits that are not vandalism, please mention the reason in the edit summary so that it is clear to everyone why you did it. Raj712 03:23, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I was wondering if I could impose on you to take a few minutes and review the discussion in article Student regarding the use of Image:Student japes.jpg in the section - Student Pranks. We have been unable to reach a concensus and I thought that input from someone with a totally different cultural background might help us draw closer to concensus. Thank you in advance. Fair use rationale for Image:Serial LS.jpg

[edit]There is a fair use statement in place for each usage of this image Dbiel (Talk) 04:02, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Serial LS.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit]Hey, sorry for the extremely lat reply. I was away for a while. To answer you question, I have not heard about Keshvi, Khwaabh, and Kasme Vaade either. I see that you removed these from the list which is exactly what I would have done. :)Raj712 04:00, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
i don't quite understand what's wrong..
[edit]I don't understand what you recently tried to show me when you said there was something wrong in the Khwaish and Virrudh articles. Can you please explain a little more so I can sort the problem out? Thank you. - Bhavesh.Chauhan (talk • contribs • count) 04:58, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself. If you do not believe the article should be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. Erechtheus 03:07, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Dsk2.jpg)
[edit]This tag no longer applies
[edit]The image had been delete with the entire infobox in article Doli Saja Ke That deletion has been reverted so image is no longer an orphan Dbiel (Talk) 03:52, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading Image:Dsk2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:07, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:17a.jpg
[edit]This tag no longer applies
Thanks for uploading Image:17a.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:36, 5 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaKBOT 15:36, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I live in Canada, not the USA. However, I doesn't air here yet. Oh, and you're doing a great job on expanding the articles related to Indian television, keep up the great work! - Bhavesh.Chauhan (talk • contribs • count) 20:55, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Serial Khanakhazana.jpg
[edit]This Tag does not apply anymore Thanks for uploading Image:Serial Khanakhazana.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:49, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

- I corrected what I could in the fair use template, but the source info is still invalid, and I was unable to locate a valid source. Did find a similar image, but not the exact image. PLEASE update the source info or the image will have to be deleted. Dbiel (Talk) 22:13, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for updating the source information, but the link you added is not the link to the image itself which is what we need. We should be able to click on the link and open up a file that is identical to the image you uploaded, or if you edited the image, then to the original image with the added information posted as to how you edited the image. Dbiel (Talk) 05:09, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Nice try, but did you look that the link that you claim to be the source: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/80/Solahsingaarr.jpg
- This is where the image is stored in Wikipedia, not the source where the image was uploaded from. The following would be an example of the source for a similar image for the article but not for the image you actually used: http://www.saharaone.in/serial/solahsingaarr.jpg Click on the link and you will see what I am talking about Dbiel (Talk) 19:39, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
{{helpme}}Could someone check the updated fair use statement to see if it now meets Wikipedia requirements? - see the following notes - Thank you - dbiel
- Copied from my talk page: The image Image:Solahsingaarr.jpg, I downloaded it from the following source, http://www.saharaone.in/serial/solahsingaarr.jpg, but I edited it using Adobe Pictures software. So now can you help me with the "fair use" rationale. I will be thankful to you! your friend Survir, 24 Oct 2007, 12:47 (UTC)
- Thank you this is a big help. I have fixed the source info. The problem now is the "Portion Used" which I have tried to fix. You stated that you had used the entire image when in fact you had both cropped it and edited it. I am going to flag this with the helpme tag for someone else to check if what I did meets Wikipedia requirements. Also could you likewise check to see if what I wrote accurately reflects how you edited the image. Dbiel (Talk)
