Famous Ryukyuan painting
I realised that I can probably make something in the style of this image re-using the seal and text I made, but not overcrowding it with distinct Okinawan cultural symbols. So I wonder if you might be familiar with a famous Ryukyuan painting that could convey a similar message and level of recognisability for the readers. --Donald Trung (talk) 15:14, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- I would say this is the most famous. ミラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 20:42, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Donald Trung: I don’t think it pinged you. ミラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 20:53, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- The colours don't work well with the black and red inscription, but it did show me the category. For whatever reason I haven't been able to receive pings at the English-language Wikipedia for two (2) or so years now, I just have to check my watchlist regularly here, I don't have this issue at the Wikimedia Commons and it isn't something I did in my user settings so I suffer from this very specific thing that only affects my account. Thanks for your reply. --Donald Trung (talk) 20:58, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Donald Trung: No problem, let me know what you decide to go with! ミラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 22:50, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
Okinawan language babel userbox(es)
Greetings... I recently added the ryu-1 Babel userbox to my page, which I see you have been the main contributor to lately. Rather than just go ahead and change it, I thought I would tell you my ideas and try to get an agreement. Tbh I really don't like the use of ruby. The ruby text is the same, or almost the same size as the main text, and it's hard to tell at first glance that it is ruby, and it just makes the whole thing look sloppy. I can't find any other babel userbox that uses ruby, and I really don't think it's necessary. I propose we get rid of that - the Okinawan text can stand alone -- all in hiragana with no kanji -- and it's ok if monolingual Ja speakers are confused :) Hiragana-only rendering seems to me very much in keeping with the modern orthography of the language. However if you want to help out Ja speakers a little bit, it might be good to put spaces between the words -- that's something I think very appropriate (you even occasionally see people write Ja this way). I look forward to your comments. Himatsu Bushi (talk) 01:57, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Himatsu Bushi: はいさい、as you can see from the time stamps on those edits it’s been a while since this came up. I did a quick look and couldn’t find where the consensus discussion for these was, I’ll put a link when I find it, but this is the result after some disputes and ideas from a few users. If I remember correctly, I wanted to use kanji and another user said it would “confuse” Japanese speakers, and a third user suggested ruby as a compromise. ミラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 01:58, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I would very much like to see that discussion. I've looked in what I think are the obvious places for it after your mention of it, but can't find it, so yes, if you do find it, please advise. Himatsu Bushi (talk) 06:20, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

Correction to previous election announcement
Just a quick correction to the prior message about the 2022 MILHIST coordinator election! I (Hog Farm) didn't proofread the message well enough and left out a link to the election page itself in this message. The voting will occur here; sorry about the need for a second message and the inadvertent omission from the prior one. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:42, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
