Possible copyrighted posters and original research

[edit]

Hi there, Storymalting. Your recent contributions to Kampong Tanjong Bunut are much appreciated. Please be aware that it is not permitted to submit copyrighted posters or photos that are not "own work"; doing so will result in their removal. Additionally, avoid including unsourced material from your own study. Using your own expertise to choose trustworthy sources is one way to prevent this (not blogs). I hope this is useful! I'm very sorry for that mistake, I was confused and I should have learn more on that. I have permission and the posters are copyright free but I don't know how to correctly format/upload it here. Could you help me on this. And for the map, I've used Brunei Survey website and also Geoportal. To be safe, I had asked my geo teacher and we double checked it. Even though I did use references, I shouldn't have rushed and upload it. Again I'm very sorry for my mistake and I totally understand your comment. Thank you for helping. To add any material, I would begin by going to Wikimedia Commons or reading this. You will be guided step-by-step via the upload form. They will instantly show up and be accessible on Wikipedia after being posted. Posters may contain copyrighted elements like logos and non-free pictures even if they are considered "own work," unless the source specifies otherwise (you still need to indicate it in the "attributes" section). Read this thoroughly to fully comprehend the guidelines. I think your modifications are in good faith, so don't worry. Pangalau (talk) 11:16, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Logos of any organisations and institutions including schools (Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College) are most likely copyrighted unless stated otherwise. They could still be uploaded through here. Use this as an example. File:DPMM.png Pangalau (talk) 05:23, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College logo is actually made by me, I redraw it digitally following references from multiple sources (e.g Books, Letters, Instagram). Storymalting (talk) 06:53, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks you, for your explanation! Pangalau (talk) 06:55, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If the same rules apply, I will gladly upload it as a non-free rational. Storymalting (talk) 06:55, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is copyrighted according to Brunei's law here. Unless it was made prior to 1 January 1974. Pangalau (talk) 07:00, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For your information, the school had acknowledged my work and used it for some events. They were glad to have a higher quality image of the logo available. But I will work on uploading it as a Logo as soon as I can. Thanks for alerting me on this! Storymalting (talk) 07:13, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I am interested in using the higher definition logo. Try asking the school to send an email to confirm the permissibility of the logo's usage. Commons:Volunteer Response Team Pangalau (talk) 07:21, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I'll try. Storymalting (talk) 07:33, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to inform you that I just met with the deputy principal academic of the school, the meeting went smoothly and he is working on it. Storymalting (talk) 00:53, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great! Looking forward to it. Pangalau (talk) 03:22, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there @Pangalau, I've ran into an issue. The deputy principle have received an email from commons quote:
"
Dear Mohammad Zulhisham,
Please advised who is the creator (photographer) of the image(s), and by which reason you became holder of the full and exclusive copyright.
Yours sincerely,
Alfred Neumann

Can you help me with this? I don't quite understand and the dep. Principle followed the template that have been shown here Commons:Email template. Thanks for your help in advance. Storymalting (talk) 04:08, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This statement is requesting specific information about the ownership of an image.
  • "Please advise who is the creator (photographer) of the image(s)": This part is asking for the identity of the person who took the photograph or created the image. Knowing the creator is essential for establishing copyright ownership and attributing the work properly.
  • "and by which reason you became holder of the full and exclusive copyright": This part seeks clarification on how the person or entity making the request acquired the copyright for the image. This could include reasons such as:
    • The photographer assigned or transferred the copyright to them.
    • They purchased the rights to the image.
    • The image was created by an employee as part of their job, in which case the employer might hold the copyright.
    • They are the creator themselves (SOAS College).
Overall, the statement is about determining who has the legal rights to the image and under what circumstances those rights were obtained. Pangalau (talk) 04:13, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
