Joseph Didier murder
[edit]While your comments are well taken, we have decided that the murder of Joseph Didier is not sufficiently notable for inclusion at Wikipedia. There were two major issues:
- The article had become a bit of a soapbox for rallying support to keep the murderer from gaining parole. (Frankly, I hope he rots in jail, or worse.) Alas, this sort of material is simply not allowed in Wikipedia by longstanding policy.
- Didier's murder simply did not rise to the level of notability required at Wikipedia, primarily because it involved only one victim and did not receive significant press coverage across a wide area. Sadly, single-victim homicides are all too common in our country. Because of that fact, the Wikipedia community had to set a standard for notability of such crimes are it relates to inclusion in Wikipedia. In other words, if we had an article about every single-victim homicide, Wikipedia would be overrun with such articles. It usually takes multiple victims in a single event, or by one murderer over a period of time (serial killer). Single-victim homicides may qualify for inclusion if the crime attracted widespread, significant coverage by the news media. I realize that setting such a standard is a bit ghoulish, but we had to do something.
I hope you understand our position. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 16:16, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
