Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Stoddard Martin, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited was Starhaven (Press), which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Stoddard Martin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the page be "userfied" or emailed to you. Randykitty (talk) 18:35, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do not write about yourself on Wikipedia

[edit]

Please do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Stoddard Martin. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Also see Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Notability (people) for inclusion criteria. ~Amatulić (talk) 19:31, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Starhaven (Press) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable company, article has no references and gives no indication of notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nomination of Starhaven (Press) for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Starhaven (Press) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Starhaven (Press) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. - BigPimpinBrah (talk) 09:38, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please have a look at WP:RS, which explains what can be used as sources to support an article. Wikipedia cannot be used as a source for itself and just giving a date is not reference either. Unless you can come up with some independent reliable sources, the article will be deleted. See also WP:CORP for an explanation of what constitutes notability for a company. If you can come up with some good sources, I'll change my "delete" !vote at the AfD discussion. Hope this helps. --Randykitty (talk) 10:42, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

discussion of Starhaven (Press)

[edit]

Dear Randy, Thanks for your suggestions. I did a bit of revision on the piece along those lines. I see that someone (was it you?) also retrieved an additional source or two. Could you advise if the piece can be removed from the deletion list now? With regards, Stoddard Martin

The deletion discussion is still open, if you think the article should be kept you can make your case at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Starhaven (Press) - BigPimpinBrah (talk) 05:17, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Moved to draft

[edit]

I moved your new creation to Draft:Benjamin Finley Hargis as it requires more solid sourcing (findagrave and familysearch are user generated and not reliable) and better formatting. Hargis is plausibly notable, he did get a New York Times death notice and there are some book sources with "Benjamin F. Hargis" you may wish to use.--Eostrix  (🦉 hoot hoot🦉) 08:52, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Benjamin Finley Hargis requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
