RE: What does "retained control" mean?
[edit]FYI I have responded to your comments at Talk:Joe Escalante. We can continue the discussion there or at Talk:The Vandals if there are concerns about that article as well. --IllaZilla 19:21, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

- What's the problem? Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:33, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
wow
that was fast
trying to get rid of vandals and have been unsuccessful in installing twinkle
was typing big question--had editing conflict with you
will now use text editor to write questions and responses so I don't lose them. What I was hoping for was an admin putting a protect or semi-protect on my page as it's suffered for almost a year of repeated vandalism. I know the source but he has lots of hangers-on and employees doing his dirty work by vandalizing my page. it's at Steve Pfauter, my real name.

- You don't loose anything in an edit conflict. Whatever you just typed is at the very bottom of the edit conflict page. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 03:49, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm a new Wikipedian, and I have a quick question. I was logged in, and I opened a separate window, not realizing that in that separate window Wikipedia did not keep me logged in. I made an edit in that window, and now my IP address is in the public domain, which makes me uncomfortable. Is there anyone that can do something about that, or am I just screwed? :-|
Thanks for your help!
Knightrunner 03:51, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
@knight runner, sorry can't help you--new too.
@hersfold, you were right and here is the original : "I've spent several hours here trying to install some sort of javascript called twinkle without success. Is there some easier way for an admin to protect or semi-protect my page? The guys who've been removing the libels are doing a great job but we're coming up on a year of this nonsense now. I know the source but he has lots of hangers-on and employees doing his dirty work for him here by vandalizing my page."
not that there's much more there than what I'd retyped. working with a right hand brace--leaves me with one finger on right so slower than usual typing.
@knightrunner: btw, how'd you end up asking your question on another noob's talk page?
Steve humann 04:19, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for responding, fellow newbie, even with your being partly incapacitated! Whatever it is, I hope your situation improves soon.
I followed some links here from the main help page, it seemed I could ask a question here. I don’t see where else I could get help on that, or be able to contact Wikipedia admin(?), but I’ll keep looking.
Knightrunner 04:10, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
@knightrunner, I think you go to your own talk page and type helpme surrounded by double curly brackets or whatever they're called.
@hersfold, I have to put the child to bed now. I don't know if you are reading up on all the edits to my Steve Pfauter page or have gone off to help others with faster fingers but I'll check back in about 45 minutes to see if you have any suggestions about my vandal problem. Thanks for your input so far.
Steve humann 04:18, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I had seen that but didn't really understand how that was supposed to work. Now I do. Thank you!

[edit]I've added some headers to make this more readable.
To request page protection, visit Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. In my opinion, the vandalism on that page isn't persistent enough to warrant protection, though.
Regarding twinkle: did you follow the instructions for installation at WP:TW? It's quite simple you visit Special:Mypage/monobook.js. Click 'edit this page'. In the edit box, put
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinkle.js');
then save the page. Then bypass your cache (hit Control-Shift-R in Firefox or Control-F5 in Internet Explorer). That is it.
If you have further questions, ask them and then replace the helpme template. --Sopoforic 04:37, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

RE: Stains
[edit]Seems your talk page is still on my watchlist after all this time, and I noticed StarM's comments regarding the Stains. I'm in the process of reading American Hardcore: A Tribal History and I believe they are covered in that book (and possibly the documentary film as well). Might be a good source to check for referencing the article. Here's the info:
- Blush, Steven (2001). American Hardcore: A Tribal History. New York: Feral House. ISBN 0-922925-71-7.
{{cite book}}
: Check|isbn=
value: checksum (help)
Also possibly this book:
- Spitz, Marc; Mullen, Brendan (2001). We Got the Neutron Bomb: The Untold Story of L.A. Punk. New York: Three Rivers Press. ISBN 0-609-80774-9.

If you want to have the article restored so that you can address the notability & sourcing problems mentioned in the AfD, you can ask Star Mississippi to restore it for you in a user subpage at User:Steve humann/The Stains (Los Angeles), where you can add a few sources to it and then move it back into the article main space. --IllaZilla (talk) 03:54, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- Illaz, thanks for the link. Steve h, I've userfied it for you at the address Illa specified above and you're free to work on it. As I know very little about punk music, I'm happy to send it through DRV once you've worked to improve the concerns raised at the AfD and looked at the sources suggested. Any questions, please let me know. StarM 04:36, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
You use WP:Twinkle, I'd wager. It is an anti-vandalism tool, that allows to revert someone else's edit, if it is vandalism.
In that occasion, you self-reverted your own edit. I'm about to restore it, though. Don't take it wrong way, but I think you're a little too inexperienced to be using an antivandalism tool, that could cause some mess, if misused... Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 00:28, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Apparently, you solved it all yourself. ^_______^ Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 00:33, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
