On that article

[edit]

Hi and again, welcome! At the risk of starting a third discussion on this, I think this is the best place for this bit of advice. First, as you've probably seen (and guessed from the responses) it is quite discouraged to edit an article that is about you directly. Now, what you can and should do, is to edit the talk page describing the edits you'd like made... or in this case, listing the things that you think are false or mis-representative. As everything here as to be verifiable, false items will quickly be removed.

Before doing so, however, you should confirm your identity, as you are claiming to be a well known person. This will add much weight to your statements about what is false. Confirming is done privately via email to our Volunteer Response Team, so anything you submit as proof will be protected by our privacy policy. You can start that process by sending an email to info-en-q@wikipedia.org.

As for deleting the article outright, that's probably unlikely at this time. Just being in the B-52s puts you squarely within our inclusion standards, so the best thing to do is to ensure that the article doesn't turn into a hack job, for which your comments on the talk page will help. I hope this helps, and feel free to ask me anything! CrowCaw 21:33, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Confirming identity

[edit]

Crow, thank you for that clear and very helpful note. I emailed the Volunteer Response Team in order to confirm my identity, as you suggested, though I have not yet received a reply. (I noticed that the email you supplied was different from the one listed on Wikipedia, which said to send it to info-en-q@wikimedia.org. rather than wikipedia.org...?)

In the meantime, I removed the remaining incorrect info in the article about me, but once I got started, I couldn't help but add more correct info -- WITH citations and links to existing Wikipedia articles and other websites, so I hope that is acceptable.

I apologize if creating this "new section" is not the correct way to respond to you...again, I'm still new at this, and am doing my best! Thank you again. Stereo45 (talk) 06:40, 24 June 2017 (UTC)Stereo45 (Ken)[reply]

Hi Stereo45. Crow's note is indeed concise and helpful, especially the part about bringing this up on the talk page of the article. What I've seen so far is acceptable in my own opinion. While it is not my intention to inundate you with too many rules at once, we do like to discourage people from editing articles which are about themselves. For the reason behind this, please see WP:Conflict of interest. There is a certain process for fixing your article, which Crow outlined above. As long as you follow it, people are usually very quick to assist. I hope that helps, and happy editing. Zaereth (talk) 19:27, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(PS: No apologies needed. Most people here understand what it's like to be new.)
