Draft:K'chò

[edit]

Hi and thank you for your contributions! I've noticed that the draft at Draft:K'chò, which was created earlier today, largely duplicates the existing article Mün language, which was substantially expanded the day before.

I think the draft can simply be discarded (I imagine you've choses to go down that path because of caution around COI, but that's not necessary: you're clearly not here to promote your work). Let me know if I'm missing anything. If you'd like to use some of the changes made to the draft, you can re-do them in the article (here's the diff that shows the differences between the two current versions of these pages [1]).

It does appear like the name Mün is rare and shouldn't be used for the article title. I imagine you'd rather the article were renamed to K'chò language, right? – Uanfala (talk) 12:54, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Uanfala, thank you for taking the time to review the draft so quickly and thoroughly.
I found the Mün language article and greatly updated it over the last few days as I had noticed a lack of a central point for key information on the people and language among linguists and anthropologists. Since K'chò is the official name of the language and people, it is what they call themselves and what they are known as in international research circles, I felt that there should be a separate site for it on Wikipedia. And so I put together the draft K'cho wiki.
The original Mün article included some strange comments about the language going into extinction, which isn't true and which I erased, and other signs of intertribal politicking. I updated that site to reflect the facts around the people and language. I would like to request that the K'cho site remains, because it is the key search term that will be used by linguists, anthropologists, aid workers and the people themselves when looking for information on them. The Mün site could remain as a secondary one, or be taken off, since the K'chò site mentions the Mün name.
Here are examples of sites calling the people K'chò:
http://chinstatemyanmar.blogspot.com/2012/11/kcho-chin.html
https://www.peoplegroups.org/Explore/groupdetails.aspx?peid=22045
http://kcholand.blogspot.com/2009/09/kcho-people.html
There are not many sites using the term Mün.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Stephen P Nolan (talk) 22:36, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for getting back! We can't keep duplicate articles under each alternative name for the subject. If we need to change the title of an article (say, Mün -> K'chò), we don't create a new page from scratch (as that fragments the page history); instead, we move the article to the new title. I've just done that here: the article is now at K'chò language, and the page Mün language now redirects there.
I've also turned Draft:K'chò into a similar redirect. The previous versions of the draft are not deleted, they're still visible in its history. You're free to restore it if you'd like to work on it, but it's usually best to directly edit the article instead.
Let me know if you have any questions. – Uanfala (talk) 15:54, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there thank you for that.
I think it's a great outcome!
Thank you so much for that. I believe it will serve the people much better.
All the best Stephen P Nolan (talk) 22:53, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
