- Why can't I edit Wikipedia?
Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.
- Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?
Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.
- What can I do now?
If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.
If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:
- Add the text
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
on your user talk page. - Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
- Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.

Request reason:
I had createdthis page on behalf of a local childrens charity which I am a member of. We raise money for local children with special needs and are NON-PROFIT making. I had created the inital page with a view to adding more details about the charity, how we raise money. We do this by staging shows. We could show pictures of how we raise the money and who we raise it for. This is all about getting the word out about a very worthwhile charity and not raising money. If this is not acceptable how is the RSPCB, Red Cross, RSPCA, RSPCC to name a few are allowed entries on wikipedia.
Decline reason:
They are not 'allowed' entries. Those articles are about them, not by them. They did not create them, nor do they have any control over them. This is an encyclopaedia, and subjects must be shown to be notable, and referenced to reliable independent sources, and all articles must be written in a neutral encyclopaedic style. Advertising is not allowed, whatever the subject is, and this includes "getting the word out about a very worthwhile charity". That is an admission of using Wikipedia for promotional purposes. User names must not appear to represent organisations, as Wikipedia accounts are for individuals only. This account will only be unblocked if you suggest a new name not referencing the organisation, and if you convince us that you understand our policies and intend to follow them. Please be aware that if you create an article, you do not retain control over it and what may be added to it by others. Peridon (talk) 18:34, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- You aren't the first to confuse Wikipedia with social media. There, you control your content, and can post nearly what you like (legal considerations applying, of course...). As one who has worked with special needs children, I wish you success with your organisation. But there are no exceptions in the policies - the rules apply to multinationals and corner florists, banks and non-profit charities. I think you'd probably do better at Facebook or Twitter (etc) if yours is a local charity. There's a sort of false prestige in getting a Wikipedia page - but I can remember some that have regretted it... Peridon (talk) 18:42, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Another point that I forgot to mention is that you cannot bring copyright text into Wikipedia - even if you own the copyright. Daft? No. Saves a lot of money in legal fees. Only if the text is licensed under Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 3.0 can it be used here (or if it's public domain due to age or source). Wikipedia text can be used anywhere by anyone, but copyright text can't be. And your stuff didn't fit our style of writing anyway so it's not worth the trouble of licensing it.
