Hello Stacey, we need to decide on who's going to be writing what for the article creation. Stacey do you mind writing a small introduction, summing up important facts about Mark Griffiths. I could be doing an education history / early years. Whilst Elena could be going for major topics of his research and Oliver to do a list of his current work, do you all agree with that? We can tweak it at any time in case there's not enough information on a particular subject.

Talk: Wiki project- Mark Griffiths

Hi, I've been looking up everything that is on ebridge to make notes and get a better understanding of what we need to do.

In terms of the assessment coming up, the presentation in 10% and the 1500 word write up is 40% but all based on our wiki page so I think we need a day to meet up to start planning the page etc.

So for the presentation we need to discuss the content on our page and reflect on group interaction and interaction with other wiki users.

For the write up -20% is content of the page, 30% is understanding of Wikipedia, what we have learnt and what problems we have encountered. 40% engagement on Wikipedia.

From what I have read in terms of writing an article: We need to start with a summary of Mark Griffiths, including a statement that states why he is noteworthy and then a source from outside of Wikipedia to confirm it.

In terms of structure it is recommended that we have : Lead section- summarising the key points covered in the article, and should be without a header. Body- following the lead section, including subheadings and headings. Appendices and footnotes- appearing after the body of the article, may include bibliographies, links to other Wikipedia pages, notes and references.

Some of the sections I think we should try and cover about Mark Griffiths is education, research fields, recognition .. If any, and his work...

There's already an article about Mark Griffiths the musician. Is that the same person? I'm guessing not. Who is the Mark Griffiths that you'll be making an article about? Where does he teach? In response to the above message, we re going to be researching Mark Griffiths the British psychologist working in the field of gambling and addiction. The only thing that the person in matter and the one you have suggested have, is the name. Ok, I see. It appears from the draft being worked on at User:Staceysavage1991/sandbox that "your" Mark Griffiths is primarily known for his work in the field of psychology, and that being a professor in that topic is a secondary thing stemming from the first. Is that accurate? It's not a problem to have people with the same name, each with an article; that conflict is solved by disambiguation. For example, there's an article for the lead singer of The Cure at Robert Smith (musician) then there's an article for the 18th-century mathematician of the same name at Robert Smith (mathematician). --Geniac (talk) 19:18, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the useful information Geniac. Based on out current findings we can justify that Mark Griffiths is mostly known for being a psychologist and some articles even state that he is known for that internationally, rather than for being a lecturer at Nothingham Trens University, so we will go with Mark Griffiths (psychologist) in order to make the disambiguation.

Ok... it looks like you're working hard on putting your draft together. Some random things I noticed:

• Make sure all the external links in the refs work. A few of them have a comma at the end of the URL, which is breaking the links.
• There should be more secondary sources. Several of the current refs are primary sources. They should be in the minority, not majority.
• It is mentioned he has won some awards, but not who these awards were given out by. Awards don't necessarily mean anything if the group giving you an award isn't reputable or prestigious.
• There are mentions of how many books, articles, and so on he has published, but the draft is this close to explaining how all his research has impacted his field of study. See Wikipedia:Notability (academics): "Having published does not, in itself, make an academic notable, no matter how many publications there are. Notability depends on the impact the work has had on the field of study."

I have just added the achievements and awards section to Stacey's sandbox. As some of the awards came from notable institutions, I believe we have managed to prove Prof. Griffiths' importance and impact in the fields he is researching, covered in another section. Even if there are some issues, that's okay. There are issues with even the most well-written articles. Remember that Wikipedia is a work in progress. No article will ever be "finished".
You have a few duplicated refs that could be formatted with "named references" (see WP:REFNAME). After the intro, the subject of an article should be addressed by just his last name, or "he". Not even "Professor Griffiths", just "Griffiths". These are two things that popped out at me, but they're certainly not major issues, not deal-breakers.
Based on his awards, influence and achievement, he appears to meet Wikipedia:Notability (academics). If you're confident that he does, and think the article is ready to be moved out of sandbox, you can submit it for review by clicking the words "click here" in the sentence "If you are writing an article, and are ready to request its creation, click here." in the box at the top of the sandbox. --Geniac (talk) 01:32, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

I've hidden the text copypasted from Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions#Using sandbox as a group. Instead of copying it here, you could have made a link to that discussion, just like I did in that previous sentence. This is a better thing to do because if somebody else replies to that discussion, it won't automatically show up here, and the copypaste didn't format correctly; some of the links were broken.

The users in the Teahouse gave you good advice regarding the uses of sandboxes. I have been working on my research and got just a sample thing in my sandbox, but then for some reason it deleted it x/, so I'll be finishing it tomorrow for sure and posting it in my sandbox and as a message here! Basically how I was thinking to structure it is as a general explanation for his area of research and then a list of his works, linked to the actual piece in an online archive. Hopefully I'll find links for all his work :)

ahh really, if you look in the history you should be able to find the deleted stuff. yeah that sounds good, I have already got a bit of a list together of his work, if you have a look on the sandbox, but if you just describe a little bit about some of his research fields that would be good, Henry Jenkins page is a good example to look at for ideas if you need it, that's what I have been doing

If you would like you can put a link to his first work like so -> PhD on fruit machine addiction , so if people are interested to know what exactly he researched in his PhD, they can have a look at the abstract.

Also we should start thinking what to put in the slides for the presentation on Monday.

I added my part of the research, take a look and feel free to edit! Also to Stacey, I've found a pretty full site, provided by Nottingham Trent University, where they have listed all his work. You can add that to the ones you've already put down if you would like to. The link is THIS. Cut and paste move

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give User:Staceysavage1991/sandbox a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Mark D. Griffiths. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen.
