Karnataka Gramin Bank
[edit]Karnataka Gramin Bank is an Indian Regional Rural Bank and financial services firm headquartered in Ballari, Karnataka. It was established on 1 April 2019 after the amalgamation of two erstwhile RRBs viz, Pragathi Krishna Gramin Bank and Kaveri Grameena Bank. KGB is one of the largest Regional Rural Banks in the country with a branch network of 1167 branches with 19 regional offices (as of April 2019) and offers a wide range of banking products and services for its rural customers.
History
[edit]Govt. of India, with a view to improving the operational viability and efficiency of Regional Rural Banks (RRB), initiated the process of structural consolidation by amalgamating RRBs. The amalgamated RRBs were expected to provide better customer service with improved infrastructure, computerization, pooling of experienced workforce, common publicity and marketing efforts, etc. The amalgamation intended to reap the benefits of the large area of operation enhanced credit exposure limits and undertake diverse banking activities. In the state of Karnataka, Pragathi Krishna Gramin Bank with Head Office at Bellary came into existence on 23rd August 2013 with the amalgamation of 2 RRBs viz, erstwhile Pragathi Gramin Bank (Sponsored by Canara Bank with Head Office at Bellary) and erstwhile Krishna Grameena Bank (Sponsored by State Bank of India with Head Office at Gulbarga. The Bank was formed as per Gazette Notification of Government of India No. F1/5/2011- RRB (Karnataka) dated 23.08.2013 Kaveri Grameena Bank, a Scheduled Bank jointly owned by Government of India, State Bank of India (formerly by State Bank of Mysore) and Government of Karnataka (share capital contributed in the ratio of 50 :35:15 respectively), permitted to carry all kinds of the banking business. The Bank came into existence on 1 November 2012 (Sponsored by State Bank Of Mysore) by Amalgamation of Cauvery Kalpatharu Grameena Bank, Chikmagalur Kodagu Grameena Bank and Vishvesvaraya Grameena Bank (Sponsored by State Bank of Mysore, Corporation Bank, and Vijaya Bank respectively) On 1 April 2019, the Karnataka Gramin Bank was constituted by the Government of India after the amalgamation of these two RRBs i.e, Pragathi Krishna Gramin Bank (PKGB) and Kaveri Gramin Bank (KGB). The newly emerged Karnataka Gramin Bank sponsored by Canara Bank and is one of the largest RRBs in the country.

The new entity “Karnataka Gramin Bank consists of 19 regional offices and the total staff strength of 5393. The Bank has a total clientele base of about 158 lakh. The branch is one of the largest Regional Rural Banks in the country with total business of about Rs 46500 crores of which deposits stand at Rs 25380 crores and advances at Rs 21120 crore. The Gross NPA of the newly emerged bank stood around 7.50%.
