Pakeerappa Ediga (Kannada: Pakeerappa Ediga; 18 August 1935 – 20 February 2015) was a Teacher and singer in the Kannada language born in Bommaghatta, Sandur Taluk, Bellary District. He is a best teacher in teaching Kannada language for primary school children. He was very famous for story telling and devotional songs singing. He dedicated his life for educating people and uplifting the life of poor. He is devotee of Sri Hulikunteshwara (Hanuman). He died after post by-pass surgery on 20 February 2015.
Pakeerappa Ediga was born in rural parts of Bellary district during pre-independence era in India then freedom struggle was on peak. He was born to poor Hindu-Ediga family along with four siblings. He lost his mother when he was just 6 years old kid and took responsibility of running the house along with his father. He helped his brothers and sister to get good education and get into teaching jobs. He worked day and night stitching clothes to earn some money for the family. He parallel studied up-to matriculation to become teacher. His efforts and appetite to learn inspired his teacher Sri Lakshminarayana who helped him to pay examination fees to complete his high school and subsequently to get job as teacher. He was acclaimed teacher having through knowledge on Hindu mythology and having complete knowledge of Hindu ancient texts Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavad-Gita. All the verses and stories from these books are by-heart for him. He taught all the morels from these books to school kids to understand and improve their knowledge on history and mythology. He was famous as good narrator of stories and famous for singing keerthans. He is very disciplined, soft-spoken and hard working person as said by his colleagues and villagers.
He married at the age 24 and become a father to 6 sons. He made sure good education to all of his sons. All of his sons are highly educated and having master degrees like, Master of Science – Geology, Bachelors of Arts, Mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering and Masters in agriculture. His family become role model to community and inspired many others in the community to get their kids get good education. All this is because of his vision and future thinking about good education.
