Copyright on Beynon logo
[edit]You uploaded the Beynon corporate logo claiming that you own the copyright and release it under the GFDL. Clearly, you don't own this logo. However, logos are available under the fair use rationale. You should tag the file with the {{logo fur}} template to indicate this usage. However, you can not use this file on a user page; the fair use only covers live articles. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:19, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
This system is extremely frustrating, it's as if I need to spend weeks learning all these codes. Thanks for pointing out the error. I have approval from Beynon to use this logo so if I type{{logo fur}} I will be legally permitted to by Wikipedia to have it on the page or is there another code I would need? Lastly, do you know why many images don't load? I try to keep the size under 1MB but only around 1/4 of them ever load successfully. These are images I've taken and own (don't care what people do with them as long as they credit where they came from) (Sprinter9 (talk) 18:54, 21 July 2011 (UTC))
Article in progress
[edit]Hi, Sprinter. I notice that you have an article in progress in your user pages about the Beynon Sports Surfaces company. You haven't brought the article live yet, so perhaps this would be the best time to make some suggestions about it, while it's still developing.
- Wikipedia isn't a catalog. It is not necessary, or really even appropriate, to list all of the company's products as you have done. Since the only reference provided for each product description is the company's own website, there is no real assertion that any given product is notable. A more general description of the company's product line would be better than a detailed listing of each product.
- The company does not appear to be notable enough to merit inclusion at Wikipedia. You have provided no citations from independent sources, nor have I been able to find any. A company is generally considered notable enough for inclusion if there is evidence of significant coverage of the company or its products in independent sources. Articles in trade journals covering the athletics business (written by people not associated with Beynon) would be a big help.
- You should delete the logo of the company from your user space draft. When you take the article life, using the logo in an info-box would constitute "fair use", but use in your user space violates the copyright policies.
Good luck with your article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:03, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your comments Dan...it is only an outline now (I always create a skeleton with anything I write and then start with the easy stuff and add in the harder items later) incidently, there are actually quite a few articles on this company within Athletic Management magazines, Environmental agencies, press releases, etc(there are also print references that I am slowly learning how to site)...I wrote a thesis on the track industry and one of the things I noticed is there are so many different products out there (with a lot of inferior products --> my research shows Beynon to be the biggest in North America with Mondo, Regupol and Rekortan and Conica leading the way in Europe and Asia). There is very little information that is easy to find and much of it is misleading. For someone studying Athletic Management, Sports Adminstration or any other form of Sports Marketing this page could be an ivaluable tool and a great starting block. I definately wish someone had taken the time to create a page that had all this information while I was researching the industry. I am trying to base this on the FieldTurf page, they were actually bought out by FieldTurf a few years ago so would I be better to link it to the FieldTurf page? In any event I am weeks away from it being done as there doesn't seem to be enough time in the day (Sprinter9 (talk) 16:09, 22 July 2011 (UTC))
- Well it sounds like you're the guy to write this article, given your background in the field. References from Athletic Management trade journals would be a great help. Press releases generally are not, as they are considered primary sources. If Beynon is a subsidiary of FieldTurf, you definitely want to mention that in the article, but the article can probably still stand on its own if properly sourced. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay.
