Your recent edits to Pittsburgh Penguins

[edit]

Please be careful to not remove large amounts of text (like you did when you removed the "Franchise scoring leaders", "See also", and "External links" sections") unless you provide a reason in the edit summary or on the article's talk page. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 21:02, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits to New York Rangers

[edit]

For future reference, we use the country that existed at the time of the player's birth, so USSR is accurate, not Russia. Thanks!  RasputinAXP  c 15:48, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: your question

[edit]

Since you are new, I will (hopefully) give you a quick rundown on the fact that over the time Wikipedia started in 2001, a number of policies, guidelines, styles, naming conventions, and so forth have been voted on and enacted by the Wikipedia community. Help:Contents/Policies and guidelines lists the overall policies and guidelines. Wikipedia:Manual of Style describes Wikipedia's own manual of style, and Wikipedia:Naming conventions describes how articles should be named.

As for the actual management of a specific groups of articles, "WikiProjects" have been created to coordinate, organize, and standardize the articles pertaining to these specific topics. Information on WikiProjects can be found on Wikipedia:WikiProject.

Now the Wikiproject that was set up to organize the ice hockey articles is Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey, and they passed and enacted the standard to list the country that existed at the time of the player's birth. It appears they have used this style for the past year or so. If you want to ask a question about it, you may post it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey. Other than that, your view is in the minority, and keep in mind that Wikipedia works by building consensus.

Sorry, if I cannot help you any further. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 17:09, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't it bother anyone that players are listed under countries that haven't existed for 15 years?
To be honest, I never really noticed here. Although, I do recall IMDB.com listing them in the format "Soviet Union (now Russia)"
why is this such a big issue now?
Of course, it all depends on who is watching what, when... Zzyzx11 (Talk) 17:41, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It would be just as false to state that Jagr was born in the Czech Republic as it would be to state that Caesar was the emperor of Italy. ccwaters 22:54, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

#1 Picks - impressed

[edit]

Hey, I just wanted to say I think the #1 picks are a good idea for the NHL pages. If you're going to continue throughout the teams, could I suggest you make them in maybe 2 columns for the longer teams (ie, DET). I'll change it on the Detroit page and see how it looks..would just make it a bit nicer.

I know you got really frustrated over the birthplaces fiasco, but I'm glad you decided to stick around and make some contributions to our Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey. scsgoal31 18:43, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and instead of linking to just the year as in 2006, maybe link to the actual draft? NHL Entry Draft has links to all entry drafts, ie 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Just suggestions, but I definitely like the additions scsgoal31 18:49, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverts according to WP:HOCKEY

[edit]

I haven't had any major reverts lately to my edits, but I cant say I do major sweeping changes like you do (i.e. the #1 picks and the birthplace fiasco..haha).

What kind of things have been disallowed? If it's something that has been standarized at WP:HOCKEY, you'll have to try going straight to the project and developing a new concensus. However, if it's just something you thought of and hasn't been discussed anywhere or previously decided to not be included, I don't understand the problem. Gimme some examples of what you've tried, maybe I can be more help. scsgoal31 01:23, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I see it is a spin-off of the NTBF sections from a few months ago. I don't know why they were gotten rid of...one day they were just taken away. I've never seen the discussion for it, but I'm sure it exists somewhere. I think they're just afraid of adding a section that has so much POV involvement (not unlike the "Rivals" sections on most teams facts section...it's a revision war almost everyday because who decides who is important or Not to be Forgotten in this sense. I do apologize that you seem to be getting reverted more than usual, but in this case it does seem to be for something that had been decided to not be included any longer. Try finding the original discussion and see if you can stir up some supporters to bring it back and will be dedicated to making sure revision wars don't occur.

And yes, it does appear that CC and GoodDay are in control...we just arrived too late..haha. scsgoal31 01:33, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Answer

[edit]

It has happened not much but I did get some conflict of interest on one page and I felt that I was right so I disputed it. I have not gotten any results back yet but I am waiting. Take a look at this site it will tell you about disputes if you really want to do it. Wikipedia:NPOV dispute. John R G 05:20, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
