Benjamin Rush

[edit]

Hi! Here's some tips:

  • Don't copy the text directly from the page. Click "edit" and then copy the actual code; if you don't, it shows up weird—no formatting, links, etc.
  • Currently, your draft is just of the introduction section, so I'll just comment on that:

He is well known as the founder of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and for being a supporter for the scientific education of all people.(www.ushistory.org Benjamin Rush was born in the township of Byberry in Philadelphia County to John Rush and Susanna Hall, which was then about 14 miles outside Philadelphia. (The township was incorporated into Philadelphia in 1854 and now remains one of its neighborhoods)

  • Let's start with "well known": who says he is well known for this? Unless there is a "reliable source" (a trustworthy publication such as a news article, book, magazine, or academic journal), that says he is "well known" for founding the college, this is an opinion. You could say he is simply known for it, though.
  • Your citation of the ushistory source is ... hard to understand. To format a citation correctly, you need to use the code demonstrated at this page; ask me if you don't understand it. Also, you need to give the entire link, not just "ushistory.org". Because Wikipedia is built on the principle of verifiability, you need to give people the information to access your source/reference so they can read it for themselves. I'm not sure how reliable of a source ushistory.org is; I would suggest using a book such as this or this, but it's ultimately up to you.
  • You seem to have merged the birth/childhood information with the introduction. Keep the article how it is currently structured; the introduction needs to summarize the entire biography.
  • Really I don't think you need to revise the current page about Benjamin Rush much; the main issues I'm seeing are:
  1. More references/sources to back up and verify all the information. Basically, every non-obvious fact needs to be backed up by a source.
  2. General expansion: make the biography more comprehensive in general. What you want to expand is up to you; model the page off Ethan Allen, perhaps. That page is a "good article"; it has passed a special review process for quality and compliance with Wikipedia's guidelines.

Hope this helps! /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 18:01, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
