Making edit requests
Hi Spncrinc. I saw the edit request you made at Talk:Upfront Ventures. Editors reviewing requests like this are volunteers like everyone else on Wikipedia, which means they me be managing there time trying to answer as many requests as possible while they are online. So, it's generally not a good idea as explained in Wikipedia:Edit requests to request lots of changes over the entire article an one time; lots of requests take lots of time to review which incresases the chances that the request only gets partially answered or skipped over entirely. Lots of requests also end up getting declined per item 6 of Template:RE/I#FFor submitters (see Template:RE/I#Declined parameters) simply because there's so much content in the request that it's hard to figure out what's being requested. For this reason (and also for WP:COPY, WP:C-P#TALK and WP:NFCC#9 reasons}, it's never a good idea to copy and paste an entire article (including any images) onto the article's talk page as part of a request. If will pretty much always led to a quick decline like this by SamHolt6. Smaller more specific requests are easier to answer and assess. This doesn't mean you can only request that one word be changed at a time, but perhaps trying to keep things a little simpler will make the requeast easier to deal for the reviewer(s). I realize that you might be working under some non-Wikipedia deadline, but Wikipedia can move slowly sometimes because most editors are only concerned about being here for Wikipedia's benefit and not about being here for some other party's benefit. Please don't take this post as criticism directed personally at you. Lots of editors making edit requests make the same mistake as you did. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:58, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Thanks for your explanation. And I appreciate that you were considerate and let me know that it's not personally directed at me. I will be more specific and come up with smaller content changes in my edit requests. Spncrinc (talk) 17:40, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
Mark Suster edit request
Hi! I see you've already received feedback regarding the Venture article edit request, so in addition to everything above, I'm adding specifics related to the Mark Suster request. You're asking editors to evaluate an entire article at once in order to make changes to the existing content. There are some key issues with your request that will take a lot of time for someone to sort out. Here are some links to issues with the article you copy/pasted that I noticed:
First, WP:NOTEBOMB, a few articles that establish WP:NBIO and WP:GNG will get an editor's support; however, dozens of sources that don't meet WP:RS serve no purpose, but will take a lot of time for an editor to verify.
Second, first-party sources, like autobiographies and interviews, by their very nature contain content that isn't reliable. As a result, using them as sources is insufficient. Besides, does your client really want to publicize his faith and family status? It does nothing to further the article. I've noticed you removed the kids' names in a prior edit, but as with any article on Wikipedia, we don't WP:OWN the content. If it's sourced, and reliable, another editor may insert the details right back in.
Third, and final for now, I recently edited this article and removed all of the extraneous links to other companies in the content of the article, as well as most of the external links at the end of the article per WP:ELNO. I noticed you're requesting they all get put back in here, and have requested an even more extensive list on the Venture edit request. Those aren't likely to remain more than a few days if they even get inserted.
You can respond directly below this if you have questions about any of the links/points above, or about my rationale, or you can start a conversation on my talk page (in my signature block).
After reworking your requests to conform to the Wikipedia policies/guidance above, if you want to discuss specific edits to any particular article vs. the general guidance above, it's best to do that on the article's talk page so other editors can easily see the conversation as well. Thank you! Orville1974 (talk) 03:30, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Orville1974: Thanks for your explanation and thanks for telling me about the reference to external links . That helps me understand the Wikipedia guidelines better. Spncrinc (talk) 17:42, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
