Userbox

[edit]

What do you have so far? I'm not the best at custom userboxes, but if you'd like the special e, it's here: é. Just copy that to where you want it, like Pokémon. You can make the é yourself by holding down the ALT key on your keyboard and typing 0233 on the number pad. Useight (talk) 00:29, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I'm afraid I removed the picture. Sorry..H2H (talk) 01:35, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Spittlespat. I noticed your comments on Useight's talk page, and I would just like to let you know that I have reverted your edit to Ash Ketchum because it was nonnotable as well as unsourced. Also, it was not written very well in the fact that words were misspelled (Ketchum), uncapitalized, and remember to put the "é" in Pokémon which you can get by holding down Alt and pressing 0233 on the number pad of your keyboard. This not a reflection on your behavior though. It was a good-faith edit and I believe you can become a valuable asset to the Pokémon Wikiproject with some more experience. Let's take the Ash Ketchum article; try rewriting/expanding/organizing/copyediting the article (it needs major work in all of those areas) and adding some good references to it would be greatly appreciated. After I get finished bringing Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen to good article status I will start working on Ash Ketchum and it would be great if we could collaborate together and bring that article to GA status as well. And if you ever need any help with article writing (or anything else), just let me know on my talk page (or Useight's; he's great at helping as well.) Also try proofreading your edits before saving. Happy editing, Artichoker[talk] 21:49, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for taking so long to respond, I'm at work at the moment. Anyway, I agree with what Artichoker has said above. You're off to a good start at adding information to articles, proof-reading before saving would be really helpful. The Ash Ketchum article could use some more work and we would appreciate any help improving it. There are also tons of other Pokémon-related articles, many of which could use some work. Thanks for your help. Useight (talk) 22:09, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstars

[edit]

Hey there. Don't worry about when you get barnstars or don't get barnstars... there's no set system for them being handed out - you can't get one for reaching a certain level of skill or anything. They're specifically intended to be awarded when another editor thinks that it's deserved. I've been here for going on three years, and I've got two (three, if you count one that a sockpuppet gave me to be a jerk, and I rejected that one). I looked at what you've been doing, and would suggest that you spend more time editing articles - get involved with some WikiProjects, start doing recent changes patrol and vandal fighting, work on improving some articles... the more encyclopedia work you do, the more people will notice your work, and the more likely that someone will decide to give you a pat on the back for it. Cheers! Tony Fox (arf!) 20:29, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Once you have 200 edits you will be eligible for the novice editor service award, but don't make insignificant edits just to get it. And as Tony Fox says, don't worry about barnstars so much. They don't really have anything to do with your value as an editor, and they're given pretty much at random. You never know when you might get one. –xeno (talk) 20:34, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Sure, you can use them. I don't own them and they are free images. There are more similar icons here. Chamal Talk 02:13, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK it's done. Go to my sandbox, click on 'edit this page' and copy all the text. Then create a user sub page on your user page and paste it there. To include it in the userpage, add (if example is the name of your subpage). I see you don't have a sandbox, so you can remove the link to the sandbox if you want. You can also change colours. Look here for a complete list of the colours you can include. Just replace the existing colour code with the new hex. code of the colour you want with a # in front. You can also include any image you want. The image name will be given as something like 'Nuvola man icon.png', just replace it with the name you want. If there's anything else or you need help with anything, just ask. :) Chamal Talk 01:15, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Pictures

[edit]

Here, for example is the code for the user page link. The text inside are used for the image link. The rest are for the text link.

<center> <font face="comic sans ms" color="Black">User Page</font></center>

Here, 128px-Nuvola man icon.png is the name of the picture. The name of the image will be 'Image:128px-Nuvola man icon.png'. To insert a new image, in the coding you have to replace the image name (without the 'Image:' part) with a new one, in front of 'image='

Look in Commons for images. You can find a lot of free images there. Here is a page with a bunch of pictures of Tux (the penguin). Just click on an image and you'll go to the image page. The title of the page is the name of the picture. For example, if you click on the first picture, you'll go here and you'll see the name is Image:Tux.png. To include it here, you should type Tux.png. To use it in a normal context (like in your userpage) type . As for the names of the icons you wanted to know:

 • Star - Image:Star max-b.png
 • Bomb - Nuvola apps core.png
 • Lightning - Nuvola apps cache.png

I hope that's what you've wanted to know and I've made it clear. If there's any doubt or you need help with something else, feel free to ask. :) Chamal Talk 00:22, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Can you describe what the 'shield of light' should look like? And thanks for the barnstar. I'll see if I can find your secret page.

Chamal Talk 01:56, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How's this one?

I've made the lines and outline very thick, because you said it was for a userbox and thin lines probably wouldn't have shown on it. The 'W' also has a white outline to make it more visible when the image is small, but I'm not sure if it will show properly even then because of the small size of the image used in a userbox. To make the W more visible, you'll have to make it huge and that would cover the shield. So I kept it as it is. BTW, I found your secret page :) I'll take just the awardbox, because I try to keep my page limited to a few userboxes. Chamal Talk 03:14, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

[edit]

Hello. I saw your edit here. I'm sorry to be the one to inform you, but you do not have enough experience yet to become an administrator. There are no hard and fast rules, but generally, it's good to have at least 3000 edits (some get by with closer to 2000), but if you look at your stats, here, you'll see that you only have 434 edits. Now, edit count is definitely not the only factor (it's not even the most important factor), so there's some other things you'd have to know before successfully become and administrator. For example, you don't use edit summaries more than about two-thirds of the time, that should be closer to 100%, as edit summaries allow other editors to quickly see what you're doing and/or why you are doing it. Also, you would want to do more work on articles, as many editors like to see admininstrator candidates do some article-building. You could also get an editor review. Those are my first tips, if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Useight (talk) 21:56, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Responses

[edit]

I check your anti-vandal class page every other day or so. As for your motto, I think it's nice, but it would be better if it was shorter. If you could find some wording that was more concise, it'd be better. Useight (talk) 23:48, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A bit of advice

[edit]

Hi Spittlespat! Just a word of advice; always write an edit summary. I know it's optional, but an edit summary will help you if another user has any trouble figuring out why you've done some edit (especially reverts). And the edit summary is generally understood as a mark of a good editor too ;) Removal of content etc. without an edit summary is easy to be mistaken as vandalism (When patrolling recent changes with some powerful tool like huggle, if the user sees a huge chunk of information removed without an explanation and that information doesn't seem to be inappropriate, it just takes one click to revert your edit as vandalism and give you a warning - no one can blame him, as it would indeed seem like vandalism) I found some of your edits to User:Rebel Queen Pokeynut's userpage somewhat confusing, but I don't have time to check it any further. Just remember to write the edit summary, and try to stick to the policies and guidelines (make sure you understand them properly first! Ask any doubt from an established user. Try User:La Pianista whom you know already) Especially since you are on editor review now :) Chamal Talk 00:52, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

yeah, i don't really get the edits on my userpage, either. seeing as you're on editor review, and you're reviewing (critisizing, degrading, deleting) my work, i'm a little peeved. okay, very peeved. a more detailed explaination on that is on my userpage, under your two warnings. i actually count what you did to my page as vandalism, on account of the fact that you touched my userpage (which is against the rules unless you're signing a board of fandom or something) and deleting my work is not on. and you say my userpage is a blog...well i hate to break it to ya, but so is yours. ~ The Rebel's Gone Pokeynuts LOL 02:12, 31 August 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rebel Queen Pokeynut (talkcontribs) [reply]

Hi, responding to what my adoptee said above, always use an edit summary. If you want, there is a section in my preferences, where you can be reminded to always use one. It's what my former adopter showed me.--LAAFan 03:22, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spittlespat, i just want to warn you. Please stop interfering in other users' pages and editing them for whatever reason you give. Not only it is extreemely rude, but also how can you be sure that what your doing is right? You have already got into trouble above for your edits to another user's page, so why do it again? Just because you and someone else thought Elmo was retired does not give you the right to go and edit his page appropriately. I'm sure you'd be annoyed if I meddled in your page, wouldn't you?

Just stick to your own affairs, don't worry about other people. If you want to point things out on the page's of others, just leave a message at their discussion page. You are not a law unto yourself. Regards, A Prodigy ~In Pursuit of Perfection~ 17:27, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree with the Prodigy. I was about to tell you to second-guess editing the Captain's page, but once I had come, I saw that you had already placed the notice there. LaPianista! «talk» 04:35, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:about Bocaj Neerg

[edit]

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I think you should read these (if you haven't already):

It's always better to discuss with the editor first if you find something that you think is inappropriate in the user namespace, instead of just removing content or reverting as the user is likely to take it as a personal attack or see you as someone opposing his views. In the page you mentioned, I don't think the information has been given in an inappropriate manner. If those are his general interests, then he is allowed to mention them. Remember that Wikipedia is not censored, and here the information is intended to provide information about him.

If you intend to continue editing this way, you really should be very familiar with the policies and guidelines and how to use them appropriately, as some of them do not apply in the user namespace and some are slightly different. Users are also likely to take your edits (even mistakes) less kindly in the user namespace. Unless something is clearly harmful and disruptive, I'd advice you to discuss it with the user and try to come to some agreeable conclusion without removing it straight away. But if I were you, I'd try to focus more on improving articles in the mainspace instead of focusing too much on user namespace :) -- Chamal Talk 13:21, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Still there?

[edit]

Notability of Creighton the Cretin

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Creighton the Cretin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Truthanado (talk) 01:07, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message on my talk page. We don't consider your edits to be vandalism. The article does not appear to satisfy the notability criteria required for a Wikipedia article. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Notability. And it's good to keep learning; even those of us who have been around for a few years like to learn new things. Happy editing. I've reviewed your mottos, but, frankly, I don't like them, sorry. They all seem to emphasize a choice, but they don't specify what choice they involve. The links, also, have little or nothing to do with Wikipedia ("Editors" leads to a British indie rock band and "Vandals" leads to an East Germanic tribe).

I've placed a motto of mine, as well, here. Feel free to place any comments there. —La Pianista (TCSR) 20:53, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cursor

[edit]

I noticed that your signature has a cursor associated with it. How can I get this cursor associated with my signature? My current signature is: "-- IRP ☎". -- IRP 23:57, 1 October 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Hello, Spittlespat. You have new messages at IRP's talk page.

[edit]

I appreciate your offer for help, but I am aware on how to get around the wiki, as I come from Halopedia. As for new, I just don't edit much here, thats all. (Seems I am beaten to fix something all the time here ;) ) XXWRAITHXx (talk) 00:29, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sig touchup

[edit]

Hey, Spittlespat!

Your sig has a problem on the "S" part. I would change it myself, but I'd rather get your permission first.

If you would like to DIY, go to your sig subpage and change the part <font color="goldenrod">S</font> to <font color="goldenrod">S</font>.

I'll be offwiki this weekend, though, so if you ever have any questions in the mean you can ask Chamal, Xeno, or Blooded Edge (or any other experienced user you know whom I've forgotten). Cheers! —La Pianista (TCSR) 21:19, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thanks for pointing out the error with my link to the awards page. Have a cookie :)

Yes, I like your new header, as well. :) —La Pianista (TCSR) 04:45, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Supported. I didn't realise you had changed the icons for Userpage, Contributions and Vandalize Me until I took a closer look! The old one looked a bit bland in comparison :P. Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 16:25, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Userpage

[edit]

I like your new userpage design, it is more organized and has more pizazz. Your suggested motto is also pretty good. As for Wall-E, I'm a big fan of Pixar, but I haven't gotten around to seeing it yet. The previews looked pretty good, so I'm going to have to see it one of these days. I have done as requested. Useight (talk) 15:45, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Talking about userpages, check mine out. Its been under some heavy revamping/reworking/re-coding/whatever you want to call it. I'd much appreciate any feedback you have on it. Cheers, Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 21:17, 6 October 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Adoption

[edit]

Hi, I saw your adoption request at Chamal's talk page. I'm his adoptor. I myself am not accepting new nominees, but here are some excellent mentors.

Hope this helps.--LAAFansign review 16:43, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Crossed myself out. I'm not really adopting at the moment, sorry. -- RyRy (talk) 17:05, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism warnings

[edit]

Hi Spittlespat!

I've noticed that you've been sending un-templated warnings to vandals. Instead, try some of the subst templates. Here they are:

This is for first edits of vandalism. It assumes good faith and encourages use of the sandbox.

This is for second edits of vandalism or slightly severe first edits. It does not assume good faith and is shorter.

This is for third edits of vandalism.

This is for persistent vandalism. After this warning is given out, report the IP address to WP:AIV, listing the diffs of the anon's edits.

This is an only warning for highly disruptive edits. Use only sparingly.

If you are interested in vandal fighting, I suggest you read WP:VAND. Cheers! —La Pianista (TCSR) 23:55, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Creighton the Cretin

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Creighton the Cretin, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. AfD nomination of Creighton the Cretin

[edit]

I have nominated Creighton the Cretin, an article you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Creighton the Cretin (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. LAAFansign review 01:14, 10 October 2008 (UTC) LAAFansign review 01:14, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Creighton the Cretin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, because it appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion. If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, place the template hangon underneath the other template on the article and put a note on the page's discussion page saying why this article should stay. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please use deletion review instead of continuing to recreate the page. Thank you. —La Pianista (TCSR) 03:58, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
