Uploading image for an article - QUESTION
[edit]I keep getting the upload warning: "." is not a recommended image file format.
Here is how I filled out the three sections of the file upload page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Upload
Source file name: I browsed to the folder with my image in it and selected the image. I've tried it both as .jpg and .png
Destination file name: Geotokens

I checked Watch this page
Then I clicked Upload
My image is 800x624 and it took longer to get to the warning when I tried it as .png than when I was trying .jpg format.
What am I doing wrong?

- Hi, you are doing everything correctly. Except, can you click upload first and then click watch this page. I think that should solve it. I am watching this page. Please let me know if you still face a problem. -- Lost(talk) 08:56, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- Also there is no template called {{free license}}. Please use {{gfdl-self}} -- Lost(talk) 08:58, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
okay... thanks... am trying it again right now
- No problems :). Just write if you dont succeed -- Lost(talk) 09:15, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Just got the same upload warning. Does it have to be .png? I tried that and .jpg both with same results. The jpg is about half the file size of the .png I've been trying for several hours now and am about to give up on the whole thing. I started looking at how to write my article about 5 hours ago and I'm not even started yet. I'm not a computer newbie and I upload photos all the time. But this is a bit more complicated. Thanks for your reply. I've got to get to bed soon. I'll wait a few minutes to see if you have any other suggestions. Otherwise I'll just check again tomorrow. **** 09:23, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- In destination file name, in addition to geotokens please also add the type, i.e, geotokens.jpg etc. I think thats where the problem is -- Lost(talk) 09:36, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Another thought just occurred to me. Can I upload the photo on another site... I use one called geocaching.com for a lot of photos and there I can use html code to put a photo on one page that I uploaded on another. Could I do that same sort of thing with the Image coding here? Refer to its http address instead of the photo's name in Wikipedia. I'm sure all my problems are because I'm a newbie at this site and in time I'll get the hang of it. - Its always better to upload images here instead of linking to an external sites. Because then there may be copyright issues etc. -- Lost(talk) 09:37, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Hey!!! it worked... putting file type in destination file name did the trick. I guess I had it in my head from a comment about naming the destination file before uploading that that would be how the caption of the picture would appear. But I've since read other things about captions so I see thats not the case. Thanks so much for your help Lost!!! **** 09:48, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- Cool :). Let me know if anything else required -- Lost(talk) 09:50, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm excited. I just finished the article for Geotoken. Check it out if you want. Thanks for your patient help. ST **** 10:52, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
I just wrote an article titled Geotoken but for some reason that I can't see the page was named Geotokens (with an s). I think a search querry is more likely to be for geotoken rather than the plural. Can someone fix that? That top heading doesn't show in my edit box.
As far as I can see from the history you was the one creating the article with the title Geotokens (maybe you just misspelled?). Anyhow I moved Geotokens to Geotoken leving a redirect there. I hope that now everything is fine. --J B 11:16, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
